Divinities tend to empower their followers with aspect of existence. These Domains are groupings of power along a shared theme they specialize in. Spirits typically are able to pass the powers of a single Domain to their followers. Gods tend to be able to offer two Domains, or at most three, to their Adherents or Pactmages. But if the God can empower multiple Domains, their Adherents typically can only channel the power of one.
Beings understood to be divine shape many of the cultures of the Dancing Spheres, both by their presence as well as by their absence. In the void left behind by the creators of the Dancing Spheres other beings took their place. Generally granting favor for devotion, the divine exist in a symbiotic relationship with mortals granting power to cultivate mortal devotion.
Beyond granting power, divinities also provide respite of deceased souls from the destruction of the Maelstrom. But being embraced by a Divinity will lead to the eventual merging with that divinity, and the personality effecting that of the Divinity. An individual rarely possesses enough will to shift a Divinity, but as a mass, the nature of a Divinity can be changed. Because of this, the more powerful a Divinity is the more selective they are in embracing the souls of their followers. Through revelation and scripture the divine cultivates followers that both empower them and will contribute positively to the Divinity.
Once the Precursor Gods and First Dragons were gone nothing filled their place for a long time. But as time progressed, fragments of their remains began to coalesces into Mote sof Power. These motes are the channels through which divine power can be exchanged with the Mortal Realm. The nature of these motes often inform the nature of the Domain they allow channeling. Holding little sense of self or will, these Motes are drawn to calls for help and seek to offer aid. With mortal dedication the Mote can be empowered by the Mortals and in turn the Mote can become a Spirit.
The lowest power of divinity, Spirits are the most limited. Either by what power they can lend to Mortals, or the area of the Mortal Realm they can effect. Typically these spirits reside in the Ethereal Mists, adjacent to the Mortal Realm, but non-contiguous with it. Limited to this shadow existence the Spirit seeks to draw power that will allow it to survive entry into the Astral Sea and carve out their own realm.
Saints are those people who once lived a remarkable life who garnered devotion in life that protected them when they entered the Maelstrom allowing them to survive long enough to encounter a Mote of Power. With access to the ability to empower Pacts or Adherentce the Saint can garner further devotion, granting them additional power to empower their worshipers.
Saints have the most variable reach of any Divinity. Some can barely empower a single pact while others can empower a nation. Their followers seek to embody the saint's values in their life, making them more likely to be taken up into the Saint's embrace upon death.
The most powerful of the divinities, Gods maintain realms withing the Maelstrom. Their power, the power of their gathered souls, and the force of their worshipers reverence can hold back the Maelstrom's power. They typically hold more than one Mote of Power and can embody multiple Domains.
