Precursor Gods

The Precursor Gods existed during the Time of Gods and Dragons. Through their instruments, the Dragons, they created the Spheres and populated them with the Foreclaimers. It is believed that the Precursor Gods did not cultivate religions around them, but maintained personal relationships with individual Foreclaimers. It was through those relationships they decided to arrange the Spheres and connect them with the Golden Paths.

Godswar

All of that changed with the Godswar. No one alive knows why the war started and the names of the combatants are lost to the mists of history. But the end result was the Maelstrom, the destruction of disappearance of the Precursor Gods, and the death of the Dragons.

Since then, though there have been Divinities who have claimed to be Precursor Gods, though no proof of their continuous existence remains.
