Kingdom of Ancaepya
Structure
The king is the lord of all the land, but he has no real power. He collects taxes from all the lords of the land, but the taxes are a fixed amount rather than a percentage. He also sells noble titles, which are the only way to own land except inside cities. The nobles control the land they own and set their own laws and have their own armies. They try to accumulate as much wealth as possible in order to purchase titles for their children. Peasants in the countryside rent land from their lord. The laws in cities vary depending on which lord owns the city, but in general houses and businesses can be owned by their inhabitants.
Culture
The culture of Ancaepya is built around money, materialism rules and success in business is valued above all else. This is reflected in everyday interactions as everyone is trying to earn as much coin as possible and even family members will rarely do each other favors for free.
Public Agenda
Bringing prosperity to all deserving in the land.
Assets
The state itself has very little in the way of assets. The king owns some land and receives enough money from taxes to fund a guard force which patrols the capital city of Wickaryn and his holdings, but he is nowhere near as rich as some of his nobles.
Demography and Population
The kingdom's two large islands are populated by around 100 million people, most of which live on farmsteads and in villages in the countryside.
The northern island is much more populous than the southern one, with about 65 percent of the population living on it.
Territories
The Kingdom encompasses two large islands and a number of smaller ones. Almost all of the land belongs to the various High Lords, each of whom comes from the various great houses.
The southern island is home to five great houses: house Tarragona, which rules the city of Tregaerion; house Cantero, rules the city of Catancia; house Georgescu, rules Salaevia; house Montaillon, rules Falsewater and Navalusia; and finally house Briseos, which rules Fallcrest.
The northern island is home to the other seven great houses: house Abinteau, rules Carcalles; house Amalethys, rules Cassonne; house Reinhild, rules Oxpond and Farport; house Ingmar, rules Brittlefel; house Drybourne, rules Drybourne; house Notillion, rules Bouvine and Orlun; and house Heywood which rules Baymore. The island is also home to the Draconic Church, who operate from the holy city of Wickaryn, which is also the Kingdom's capital.
