House Tarragona has always personified the ideal Ancaepyan family. They can trace their lineage back to humble beginnings as a minor house on the southern island, but through perseverance and shrewd maneuvering, they managed to amass enough wealth and power to supplant the previous High Lords ruling in their area. They pride themselves on their martial abilities and their hard work.

Assets

They command a large standing army and have access to many levies. Their capital city, Tregaerion, is a hub for trade and industry and they rank among the most wealthy of the High Lords.

History

After amassing large amounts of wealth the Tarragorans declared war on the previous High Lords, house Abollet. Lord Germund Tarragona, the head of the house at the time, managed to secure an alliance with the High Lord of House Cantero and together they attacked house Abollet who were swiftly defeated. The Abollet's capital city was renamed to Tregaerion and became the seat of the house. The Tarragorans continued to amass wealth and influence and expanded their holdings at the expense of their neighbors, house Alcfrith, and their former allies, house Cantero. They became the most powerful house on the southern island and one of the most wealthy houses in the Kingdom. After the death of Medred Danothes, Godwulf Tarragona became the main political opponent of the new king, Meilanion. Godwulf opposed him at every step and formed a coalition with some of the other High Lords in the weeks following the former king's death. Meilanion acted quickly and had Godwulf assassinated while consolidating his support among the other High Lords. The coalition fell apart with Godwulf's death, and large swathes of Tarragonan land had to be surrendered to their opportunistic neighbors in order for the new king to award the house heir with the title of High Lord. The new head of house Tarragona, Gaunther attempted to avenge his father's death and let himself be goaded into a duel with the young king, who easily defeated him. After Gaunther's death, the house lost even more land and influence and is no longer the most influential force on the southern island. The new lord, Guthlaf, is a young boy of fourteen and he has inherited a house teetering on collapse.
