House Notillion

One of the great houses of the northern Island, house Notillion rules the cities of Bouvine and Orlun and the surrounding countryside.

Culture

House Notillion has produced some of the most politically shrewd minds of Ancaepya. Their finesse and elegance serves to manipulate political rivals and allies to serve the whims of Notillion. They value diplomacy and trade over military conflict and have never entered a war in the recorded history of their house.

Public Agenda

Keeping the peace between the squabbling houses.

Assets

They rule two of the most wealthy cities in Ancaepya, Bouvine and Orlun. They are both situated along important trade routes and Orlun lies near the gem mines in the northern Alsdair mountains, which House Notillion also own. The Notillions employ a legion of merchants with caravans and ships to export their goods all across Ancaepya.
Their military is relatively small, but they have the means to support a large mercenary force if that were ever required.

History

House Notillion has one of the longest histories in Ancaepya. At first they were a petty house in the Alsdair mountains, levying taxes from the local peasantry, but all that changed when a sapphire was discovered in a cave on their land. They became merchants, dealing in precious gems, and soon acquired enough land in the mountains to begin influencing the lowlands. By the time the Dragonlords left the continent, house Notillion was one of the wealthiest on the northern island.
How they became the lords of Orlun is unclear, but the city has served as the seat of their power for a very long time. They consolidated their lands and then quickly began expanding their borders. Although they were never officially at war with their neighbors they did often use raids to destabilize a region which they coveted. Their influence quickly spread as they bought up more and more land, or married into prominent noble houses in exchange for their fealty. Marriage is also how house Notillion spread their rule over the city of Bouvine.
During the succession crisis following the death of King Medred the Notillions remained neutral at first, but then began funding the royalist armies and are now favored by the new king because of this.
