The Dragon Scepter

"The breath of a dragon is hidden within
and the power of one it exudes.
Although it can only be wielded by him,
if a king is unworthy,
its power eludes."
~ The Ballad of King Marcellus III

Significance

The Scepter is the most famous artifact in all of Ancaepya. It was forged by the famous Dwarven artificer, Thromneal, who also supposedly founded the Runesmiths, the oldest guild in Ancaepya.
The Scepter has had many functions throughout it's long existence. In the beginning it served as the Scepter of the Runesmiths' leader and the symbol of Dwarven allegiance to the dragons. After the dragons left Ancaepya it became a symbol of faith in the dragon pantheon and it was soon acquired by the Cult of Astilabor, who displayed it proudly in their Grand Temple in Wickaryn. After a series of theological disputes in which the Church was accused of usurping the innate power of the dragons using the Scepter, and the Dragon Scepter itself was an insult to the gods, the Scepter was lost for a time. It was discovered again in 4357 AD and the first king of Ancaepya, king Marcellus I Danothes, declared his possession of the Scepter was a divine sign that he was the rightful ruler of all.
The Scepter remains the divine symbol of the king of Ancaepya to this day.
