2nd Respitesday of High Autumn, Second Age 1853

New Worlds

by Aranesi Eiryant

1st Respitesday of Autumn's Edge, Second Age 1853: This expedition has stretched longer than any before, and we've finally set foot on new soil on the fourth respitesday of High Autumn. The land we charted was intriguing, but the real curiosity came the next day with the discovery of these strange wooly creatures, surviving off the dead grubs. They seem to possess an innate ability to distinguish between the living and the undead - a fascinating adaptation. I wonder if they could be studied further for insights into combating undeath. Lady Aria's decision to bring them back to Hithfaer was wise. Encounters with the undead horde following their tracks were a chance to test the mask I crafted, imbued with Drustanus' magic. What does this spirit have planned for us? We are not clerics, yet we've been granted these abilities. The implications are vast, and I'm eager to understand more.

On the fifth day, we reached the nexus where fire and air ley lines clashed. The firenado was a spectacle, but the portal at its base was what truly captured my curiosity. What could lie beyond? When Lady Aria entered a trance and came to a decision to cross through, my mind raced with possibilities of what realms we might encounter - a place of pure fire or perhaps something entirely unexpected. The passage was agonizing, but the sight on the other side was unparalleled. Two armies, one of fire, one of air, in a battle where no one truly died. This suggested a form of combat governed by strict rules, possibly magical or spiritual in nature. I was keenly interested in the dynamics of such a conflict.

Lady Aria's negotiation with the fire side was a masterclass in diplomacy and magic. In less than two days, we not only witnessed but facilitated the birth of a new demiplane - one of smoke. This new realm, a fusion or perhaps a compromise between fire and air, opens up so many questions about the balance of elemental planes. Does this new plane strengthen or weaken the individual realms of fire and air? Could it serve as a buffer or perhaps even a conduit for new forms of magic? The implications for our understanding of planar interactions are profound. The portal closed, but the knowledge we've gained, and the potential for future alliances within this smoke realm, are invaluable. Lady Cavatina would be astounded; her daughter's achievements are monumental.

The return was uneventful, which suited me fine - it allowed time for reflection on what we had witnessed. The herd's relocation was an accidental boon, letting us explore more of this side of the mountains without retracing our steps.

2nd Respitesday of High Autumn, Second Age 1853: Correspondence from Lady Gweir came, but with Lady Aria's focus turned towards the sea and the ruins off our coast, I've invited Lady Gweir or her envoy to Hithfaer. The potential for new alliances and knowledge from Eglasil is not to be missed, especially now as we prepare for another venture. I'm eager to ensure these ruins hold no threats and perhaps unravel some ancient secrets that could shed light on our new discovery.
