3rd Amerysday of High Winter, Second Age 1853: The holidays concluded quietly, a welcome reprieve after the tumult of the Longest Night. The calm gave me time to reflect, to sift through my notes and ponder the shadow agents’ motives. There’s a deeper game at play, and I long to uncover its rules.
Aelorna received a message from the princess, revealing her plan to escape during Nyxthranis’s scouting mission to our town—a bold move to exploit their investigation into their own interference. The audacity of it fascinates me; what knowledge might she carry about their inner workings?
4th Amerysday of High Winter, Second Age 1853: It was our birthday today. Zhyrissa was the only one to visit us. Outside of the council she is the only one who knows our situation. I am amazed that she continues to stick with Isenara, though perhaps it's the relaxed nature of their relationship to keeps things from becoming too strained.
5th Respitesday of High Winter, Second Age 1853: Selestiel, Malakar, Grikz, and Horatio departed to intercept her, their decisiveness a contrast to my preference for deliberation. By the evening of the 5th Seojungsday, they succeeded—the Nyxthranis scouts were identified, and the princess was whisked away, though the scouts themselves vanished into the night. It’s a victory, yet the precision of their retreat intrigues me.
The scouts lingered for days, their shadow magic rendering them elusive. One was briefly captured, only to slip free with unsettling ease. Their mastery of shadows will continue being a thorn in our side until we can establish sufficient defenses. Our winter kin may have lost that ability, but many have had experience in its use, there should be one or two among us who has experienced an effective way of countering it.
1st Respitesday of Winter's End, Second Age 1853: Isenara is handling the position on the council better than I expected, perhaps it is a matter of our shared mind, that she can be subconsciously affected by my diligence and temper her spontaneity. If she continues like this, Hithfaer will be a bustling trade hub to overshadow Forna Vasar in no time.
