Shadowhisp
Shadowhisp is not a full language but rather a secret code woven into everyday speech. Used by rogues, spies, and smugglers across Whenua, it mixes slang, jargon, metaphors, and coded gestures to convey hidden meanings while sounding like normal conversation to outsiders.
Every major kingdom has its own regional flavor of the Whisp, but the essence remains the same: to communicate without being understood by guards, nobles, or anyone not initiated into the underworld.
Writing System
Thieves’ Cant is rarely written down, but when it is, it appears as innocuous graffiti, chalk marks, or carved symbols. A circle might mean “safe house,” an X could mean “guard presence,” and a set of slashes may mark “meeting point.” Outsiders see nonsense — insiders see a map.
Phonology
- Overall Sound: Disguised within ordinary speech; indistinguishable from local dialects unless you know what to listen for.
- Consonants: No fixed set — depends on the local dialect it’s masking.
- Vowels: Same as host language; nothing overtly strange.
