Ossum Broth

Kar'ash drith ossum,
cen'var ash'kal,
etha'run mar'zar.
Uthrath, bones walk lightly.
A decoction made by boiling broken bones, ash, and salt. Whoever drinks it feels their body lighten and their bones harden: they become swift and resistant to blows.

Instructions

  1. Break the Bones
    • Smash the bones with a hammer until splintered..
    • Collect all the shards: “nothing may be wasted.”
  2. Purify with Fire
    • Scatter ash’kal over the bones while chanting the Ossum verse..
    • This binds the spirit-dust to the marrow.
  3. Start the Broth
    • Place bones in a cauldron with spring water..
    • Add mar’zar salts and bring to a slow boil.
  4. Add the Essence
    • Drop in marrow globules..
    • If tradition demands, add a sliver of the drinker’s skin or hair to “tie the broth to the bearer”.
  5. Clarify the Soul
    • Skim impurities until the broth becomes pale, almost white..
    • Add a pinch of wind-powder.
  6. Steep for Hours
    • Simmer until the marrow has dissolved into the liquid..
    • The resulting broth is thin, milky, and unnaturally light.
  7. Serve Hot
    • The drinker should consume it in one continuous breath for the blessing to take effect.
