Highlanders are famous for their guerrilla warfare tactics, using the rugged terrain of the forest to their advantage.
Composition
Equipment
- Padded Jack: Instead of heavy armour, many Highlanders wear a padded jack, a quilted garment made of layers of cloth or leather, offering protection without sacrificing mobility.
- Targe: They carried a round wooden shield called a targe, often reinforced with iron.
- Dirk and Claymore: Highlanders are known for their claymores (large, two-handed swords) and dirks (long daggers). These weapons are suited for the aggressive, up-close combat style Highlanders favour.
- Axes and Spears: Many carry axes or spears, using them for close combat or skirmishing from a distance.
Tactics
Highlanders fight using hit-and-run tactics, often ambushing enemies in the forest. They also form the infamous schiltron, a circular defensive formation of spears, to fend off cavalry.
