Forest of Cothique

To the west of Cothique is Avelorn, although it is only accessible through the perilous Chasm of Sorrows. This pass, difficult as it is, is one of few access points to the inner ring of Ulthuan. Some military theorists argue this explains why Cothique has seen the brunt of so many attacks on the island, although no proper army could make use of the route. Like Avelorn and neighbouring Chrace, Cothique is a forested realm. Beyond the band of craggy land of the coastal regions, a vast forest rises up, full of dense stands of pine and birch that thrive despite the poor soil and cold wind. This woodland blankets the inland and the foothills of the Annulii Mountains to the kingdom’s southern edge.

The eastern reaches of the Great Ocean lie east of Cothique. The enchantment of the Shifting Isles, woven to protect Ulthuan from naval aggression, makes the oceans particularly difficult to navigate and the smaller islands a true challenge to reliably locate. Small shrines to Mathlann are scattered throughout the isles, many of which are tended only by itinerant storm weavers and sailors who, by the mercy of the god, chance upon them for safe harbour in a storm.
