Origins

In the beginning, there was only Yanu, and from his energy, an empty world was born, and Yanu was its shepherd, and he began to make it beautiful. To aid his work, he forged the Ynue, beings created of great power, as well as smaller helpers, for more humble tasks, whom he called the Onu. Together they sculpted rivers, grew forests, and birthed creatures that roamed freely in his burgeoning world. Yet Yanu was not satisfied, he dreamed of perfect beings to inherit his creation.

His first attempts yielded beings of striking beauty but little intelligence. Learning from his labours, Yanu tried again, breathing life into the Mystics. He created them using his previous experience as a guide, and he even incorporated aspects of the Onu into their design. They were peaceful and wise beings with long lives of philosophy, harmony, and art.

Betrayal

But the Ynue, once loyalsevants, grew unhappy with Yanu's governance, and wishing to rule the world themselves, they turned against their maker. Fueled by ambition, they enforced dominion over the world, twisting Yanu's vision. They forged monsters, plagues, and engines of death. They enslaved and genocided the Onu, many of whom were helpless against them, not having been built for battle. And Thus it was that the world became filled with war and suffering.

In his divine retribution, Yanu banished the Ynue, severing their ties to the world and imprisoning them within their own energy. Yet, this act came at a cost. The Ynue had been crafted from Yanu's own essence, and their betrayal saw the god's strength wane. With his fading power, Yanu chose to make his final attempt at life, however long it would take him. These creations were to be the last hope for a world of creation.

Transitions

The Mystics stood as Yanu's enduring legacy, powerful and wise. The Corporeals, however, were fragile, their lives fleeting and uncertain. When Yanu passed into shadow, the corporeals, even the longest living among them, lived short and seemingly meaningless lives before dying even more meaningless deaths.

But no... That wasn't the case at all.

Legacy

The corporeals thrived. They spread across the world and diversified, and their brief lives burned with intensity, driving them to achieve in a single one of their short lifetimes more than the Mystics, the Onu, or even the Ynue had in many thousands of years. They built civilizations, tore them down, and rebuilt anew. They shaped the world in their image, changing it to be beautiful and terrible.
Yanu rested, and in his slumber, protecting them against the Ynue with what remained of his power.
