Veskaren Mountains
Black Rock
The largest and widest mountain in the world is known for its dark rock formations. Its veins are rich in many valuable metals, and it is especially known for its wealth in Jet, a most useful metal, not only as a metal for weapons but also a material perfect for magical infusion. It is here, among these mountains, that the Orcs have made their homes. It is an environment perfectly suited to their tribal warrior ways.
The Orc clans are numerous, and many are conquered and newly founded each year, but there are some bigger clans that have more or less stayed the same over time, other than moving around a bit here and there and changing their leadership every few years. They have been able to remain in power simply due to their size and renown.
Orc clans are often named after a weapon or appendage, and a color or other signifier, such as the blood fangs or blue blades, which are two of the older orc clans.
Eastern Ranges
The black mountains are but the westernmost ranges of a much larger mountain range. Towards the west, it continues in two more modest ranges, the Red Mountains, in the south, and the Ashen Mountains in the north, both named for their dominant shade of rock.
There are also orcs in these mountains, but they are much less numerous here, and there are no major tribes to be found in these parts. They used to be part of what the Orcs called black rock, their homeland, but because they are thoroughly under Yenoan control now, the Orcs were pushed out and relegated to the western mountains, which were much taller and much more difficult for foreign powers to project their influence.
Caraethina Highlands
The Caraethina are the highlands that give form to the Enyanian basin. They are the reason there is such a distinct ethnic difference between the world and grass elves. On top of that, they are thought to be the reason for the enyaninian rainforest to be so rainy, as the highlands keep most of the moisture inside them. The highlands are fully covered in forest, and they form a boundary where the tropical rainforest transitions into a more temperate, non-rainy forest.
The Dark Forest
The most famous sub-region of the highlands is the southeastern portion, often called the dark forest. It is one of the lower parts of the Caraethina, as well as its wettest part, and its wildest. The terrain is very uneven, with many rocky ridges, wild rivers, and dense jungle, making this place extraordinarily difficult to traverse. This dark forest is also home to one of the Terhikai gates, a strange phenomenon that has yet to be fully understood, especially this one, because, due to its location, it is extremely difficult to access and study.
While people live all over the Uthaekai in small numbers, this region is almost entirely void of elven presence, simply due to its hazards. Not necessarily in the form of the environment, but more so because of the dangerous monsters that thrive here.
It is also well known for its high concentration of spriggans, Ents, and fairies, none of which appreciate elven, or corporeal presence in general.
Geographical Impact
The Caraethina splits the Enyanian rainforest into two: the western part, surrounded by the highlands, and the eastern part, isolated from the rest of the forest by the dark forest.
Besides forested peaks, and jagged rock formations, the Caraethina is known for the many rivers the spawn from it, the best known of them is the Lethi river, most of whose tributaries originate from the Caraethina highlands, but there is also the Marandi river in the east, and the southern marn, in the north.
The Uthaekai Mountains
hidden away in the southwest of Enyanin, lay the Uthaekai mountains, despite being isolated from the much grander Caraethina highlands, it is considered to be part of the same range, and the highest and sharpest peaks of the entirety of Enyanin are found here.
Volcanic Mountains
Besides just being the highest region of Enyanin, these peaks also host the country's only volcano, although there are actually five volcanoes right next to each other. There are also many more inactive volcano craters spread throughout the mountains, but the most recently active of these last erupted more than twelve hundred years ago. The Uthekai volcanoes are ash volcanoes, meaning that instead of lava, the spew ash and rocks into the sky, They erupt fairly regularly, about once every two hundred and thirty years or so, which sounds very long in human years, but this means the average elf will see three of these eruptions in their life.
Aftermath
The wind patterns and shape of the land dictate that this ash is blown inland, and the most affected regions are always Annat and Onyialdu, then the regions hugging the craethina, which block he ash from traveling further north.
These eruptions usually last a few weeks, and they disrupt the regular farming and trading cycles of Enyanin. However, they also lay down a fertile blanket of ash onto the land, which is then quickly soaked into the soil by the frequent rains that fall there. The river may be colored black for a few months, and there might be a lot of initial damage, but when all is said and done, the passing of an eruption will guarantee a most plentiful harvest for the following decades.
Hot Baths
When the mountains aren't exploding, they provide a popular holiday destination for the Enyanian population, as well as those who live there natively. The mountains are home to a number of geysers and hot springs, as well as volcanic lakes. Some of the more recent lakes, formed on old volcano craters, are still warmed by the lingering heat of the mountain, but the older ones, in the center, and the east of the mountains, have since cooled to regular temperatures, and each of them has developed their own unique biosphere, as they are largely isolated from the rest of the world. They all get their local fish life from what eggs make it here by through visiting birds.
End Mountains
These are the vast mountain ranges of the north, they are split between an eastern dendorian half, and a western dwarven half. Both of these halves are rich in metals and are known for their content of mithril, a most rare metal.
Mountain Life
While the dwarves have conquered the mountains and made them their home, the dendorians are mere tourists in the peaks. They visit when they can but struggle to make a permanent home in the perilous heights. This is further reinforced by the presence of Goblins, who call these mountain ranges their home. In the dwarven half, the Goblins have been driven deep into the mountains, but in the dendorian half, they are able to settle freely, since the humans have proven unable to project power in such highly elevated lands.
Control
The dwarves have enforced dominion over the mountains for many long years of warfare. The goblins dig deep and entrench themselves in vast cave systems and underground strongholds, making them very hard to defeat permanently. But the dwarves did it.
Now, they secure their most important regions with fortresses and underground military garrisons, many in the same places where there were once goblin kingdoms."
The dendorians, while present on the surface, particularly the mountaineering Fell tribe, don't do nearly as well underground as the dwarves, which has prevented them from efficiently rooting out the goblin pests.
The control regions with sophisticated mountain settlements are not nearly as strong as dwarven fortresses, though.
The dendorians have been able to extract Mithril from their side of the mountains, but not nearly as well, or as efficiently as the dwarves.
Relations
The dwarves have frequently offered to help the dendorians out with their parts of the mountains, and in the past, they were taken up on this offer on occasion. The dwarves benefited from this because they traded their aid in return for a portion of the mining rights.
However, ever since the dwarven occupation, and assimilation of the western black forest, a region long inhabited by dendorians, relations between these two peoples have soured severely, and the dendorians no longer trust the dwarves to hold up their end of the deal, or refrain from stabbing them in the back when they have what they want.
