Bestiary

Below you'll find a selection of creatures from across the sector. I've endeavored to add the more common threats first, and will expand outward as time permits. There are many dangers both in normal space, and the umbral depths. Tread warily if you leave the safe confines of your world.   Each creature has been assigned a Magnitude, just like spells. The higher the magnitude, the scarier the creature. It's not perfect, but the magnitude is roughly equal to your magic. If you've been to 5 Catalysts, then you'll find a Magnitude 5 demon a challenge. If you've only been to 2 Catalysts that demon will probably eat your face off.   When charting your adventurers around the sector be wary of high magnitude creatures, but also don't underestimate lower magnitude ones. Wights are only a 2, but wights are extremely dangerous. Fragile, easy to control with salt maybe, but if they get in close you're dead, and you're a wight too.   The scale is mostly based off hit points, defenses, and weird special abilities that might kill you. It isn't perfect, so take care when using what you learn here.   If you have questions, comments, or credits send them to @Jerek- Human Artifact Hunter .

    Applying Templates

Almost any creature can have a template applied to it. Some templates exist purely to change a creature's power level, like the lesser and greater templates discussed in the Combat chapter.   Other templates flavor a creature, while providing both benefits and weaknesses, such as the aspected template. A spirit aspected creature does gain power, but is also vulnerable to dream, void, and life.   When applying a template you simply apply each of the modifies to the existing stats for the creature. If you're creating a lesser fire drake, then you drop a fire drake's hit points by 50%, lower its defenses by 1, lower armor and resistance by 2, and all dice pools by 3.   If you were making it greater you'd add to all those things per the greater template.     Lesser Template   Lesser templates are generally applied when you need to weaken something before throwing it at your party. Want them to fight their first Wyrm and live? Make it a lesser Wyrm.
  • Cut hit points by 50%.
  • Lower all defenses by 1, minimum 1.
  • Lower armor and resistance by 2.
  • Lower all dice pools by 3.
  •     Greater Template   Greater templates are used when you want to challenge your party. If you think they're going to mow down those wights, then make them greater wights so they can survive another hit or three.
  • Increase hit points by 50
  • Increase all defenses by 1.
  • Raise armor and resistance by 2.
  • Raise all dice pools by 3.
  •       Primal Template   Primals are the nascent lifeforms of the universe, and are inherently better and stronger than mere mortals. All primals have been shaped by a Catalyst into whatever form they currently wear, and cannot produce offspring through conventional means.   Their numbers are only increased when more primals are attracted to the same Catalyst, and when they hit a critical mass they will breed true, and their offspring will lose the primal template.
  • Increase hit points by 20%.
  • Increase skepticism by 1.
  • Raise all dice pools by 2.
  •       Aspected Template   Each aspected template selects one of the eight magical aspects. The creature gains vulnerability to it's opposite, so if you become fire-aspected you are vulnerable to water magic and take double damage. If you choose a realm you are vulnerable to all other realms.   The payoff is that you increase all your defenses by 1, you gain 5 resistance in your aspect, 3 pool, and the ability to manifest your aspect. You can learn your aspects spells, if your species is capable of doing so.
  • Gains vulnerable to opposite aspect, or all other realms if a realm is chosen
  • Increase all defenses by 1.
  • Raise Aspect resistance by 5.
  • Gains 3 pool, manifest aspect, and can learn other spells if capable of learning spells

Will there be more creatures coming out soon? My largest hinderance today is creating balanced monsters for my group.
