Personal history
I was born in 1995, smack dab in the middle of the decade. Funny enough, I am the middle child of 7. One older sister, two older brothers, and three little sisters. We lived on a tiny island off the coast of Canada. I was a pretty unremarkable child. I did my chores and I went to school. We weren’t a particularly religious family, acknowledging the existence of the Gods and praying when people were sick, but I had a deep fascination with the lore and the stories. I loved walking past temples and found comfort in the laws set in their texts. I was small even then, and slipped away often to read by myself. I never really had friends to be close to.
Papa is from far away, he doesn't speak of it much. My mother is from a large city in America. I’m not sure how they met, they didn't talk about themselves much. Papa works for the village council, keeping things in order. Mama stays home with the children. She does help out in the community a lot as well. They were like, the perfect couple with the perfect life. I guess I just fell through the cracks.
My older sister Amina and I were walking in the Drudge Forest after dark just after I turned twelve. Amina is a free spirit, beautiful and tall, I looked up to her so much back then. But I was far more shy, and law abiding than her. She convinced me to swim in the creek with her, even though it was just beginning to warm up for the summer. I knew the water would be cold, I should have told her to go home. But she jumped in and hit her head on a set of rocks under the surface. I dove in after her to pull her out. She was heavy and it took me a long time, and I cried and prayed the whole time. I called on every God and Goddess I could think of. I thought of Vitas, the Goddess of life, and begged her to save my sister. And my sister woke up, her color returned to her lips and I praised Vitas because I knew she had been the one to help.
Amina threw her arms around me and kissed my face. When our embraced stopped, a faint pinkish red glow was around us. Vitas was standing near the bed of the creek. She was beautiful in a majestic way, and made out of pure physical beauty. She had this matter of fact look on her face, like total acceptance and peace. This turned to a smile as our eyes met. I was star struck, I bowed on my knees to her, humbled by her presence. She pulled me to my feet. “What a brave girl you are,” she said. She proposed a place in her main temple where I could learn the ways of a mighty cleric on one condition.
My sister forgot this evening's events, I would live my life for Vitas, live by her code and I could not see my family until after I had completed my training. This was everything I had always wanted. I was being seen by someone I had only read about for years. I couldn't refuse.
She said a temple servant would come to my home in three days to help me collect my things and gave me a letter to give my parents. They weren't thrilled, but when your child gets chosen by the Gods you don't complain. Mama packed a small satchel with food for the journey and a picture of the family. I cried a lot that day.
I studied from age 12 to 20 in the temple in Spain. I learned to speak Celestial and fight with a sword. I learned how to channel the life, energy, and magic Vitas bestowed upon me. I know more about religion than I do about my heritage. I did well there.
Upon the completion of my training, I was blessed in front of our congregation and baptized with the name Alejandra, which means defender of mankind. I worked in the villages around Spain healing and preparing to go home when I got the call to work on the mainland of Canada. I went back home recently to visit my family and meet the new little ones. I am also married to the love of my life, Thomas, and knows we may even have little ones of our own some day. I love my job and I love the good work I am doing for the world.
