Personal history
Born in 1963, Elijah Patterson was the youngest of four children, his two brothers were the oldest of the four and his sister was a few years older than him. As a young boy attending school Elijah ended up being picked on often due to being shorter and quieter than most of his classmates. His brothers taught him some self-defense tips before they were deployed to fight in the Bram’s Land civil war.
The war went on for an unexpected ten years, but seven years in, the Patterson family received noticed of the deaths of Daniel and Bryan. This led Elijah to become even more quiet and reserved in school. Soon he began to get into fights with the other kids who would pick on him for his quiet nature. After enough notifications from the school about his fighting, his parents decided to home-school Elijah. Once he finished with his parents’ schooling, he decided to attend the police academy and go into law enforcement.
Afterwards he went to work immediately, building up a name for himself as an expert detective, and catching the attention of chief of police Richard Briggs. Elijah was transferred to the 17th Precinct and received most of his cases from Briggs himself. One day in 1990, Elijah was working a case when he came across an old friend from the academy, a woman named Dana who had dropped out before finishing. They caught up with each other and decided to meet up again a couple days later for coffee. Their coffee meet-ups became more frequent and eventually turned into different kinds of dates and the two began their relationship.
After five years of dating, Elijah proposed to Dana in the coffee shop they had their first date in and she accepted. In 1997 Dana gave birth to a pair of fraternal twins. A girl named Tanya, after Dana’s mother, and a boy named Daniel, after Elijah’s late brother.
Throughout the early 2000’s Elijah was in charge of deciding which officers would be placed on the SWAT Team of the 17th Precinct. Three particularly impressive officers were Annie Denn, Carol Dixon, and Remy Lefevre, all members of the same graduating class at the academy.
Elijah’s life was relatively peaceful, comprising of taking care of his children and wife until 2016 when his kids went off to university. Shortly after dropping his kids off at the campus, he was notified of a robbery taking place at a Gemstone Industries facility in the Nocturne District. He was the first to respond and saw a masked man leaving the building in a hurry. Elijah attempted to stop the thief but when he grabbed his arm was met with a kick to the gut as the thief dropped an amount of rings he was holding in that hand. The thief continued his escape without picking up the dropped loot. Elijah then picked up the scattered rings and brought them to a scientist standing outside who was chasing the thief. The name tag on the scientist read ‘Dr. Rinard’ and as Elijah returned the rings, he carefully inspected each one of them. After a few moments he handed one back to Elijah saying that he could keep it as thanks.
It was a ring with a piece of Danburite in the face and Elijah slipped it onto his finger on his way back to the precinct. He discovered that the band expanded to match the size of his finger and felt a slight prick as he let go of it, but thought nothing of it. The next day in a meeting with Briggs, Elijah briefed him on what happened and found that he had no issue in retracing his steps like he normally would. After mentioning the ring which the scientist gave him, Briggs asked to see it and called in an advisor for the ring investigation team named Alexander Rite. Alexander identified and confirmed that the ring Elijah was given was a powered one. It gave him the ability of pathfinding, being able to flawlessly track anyone and find his way to anything. With this news, Briggs put Elijah on the ring investigation team and he has been working with them to discover what mysterious plans have been conducted at Gemstone Industries ever since.
