Willowshade
Willowshade is a semi-autonomous agrarian vassal settlement located within The Serenity Barony of the Kingdom of Alderia. Once a vulnerable rural hamlet troubled by frequent bandit raids, it was transformed following its purchase by Edward Willowshade, who secured the land through private military assistance and negotiated a cooperative agreement with the Brackenhill Farmers Union. Rather than imposing serfdom, Willowshade developed under a unique power-sharing structure, allowing independent landholders to retain control while recognising Sir Edward’s authority. Today, Willowshade is defined by its agricultural productivity, strong tradition of rural self-governance, and reputation for stability following the elimination of the local bandits.

History
Acquisition by Sir Edward Willowshade
Originally a rural hamlet with fertile land but plagued by raids from the local bandits, the territory was purchased from the Serenity Barony by Sir Edward Willowshade. His governance marked the beginning of modern Willowshade.
Elimination of local Bandits
Security was secured by contracting the mercenaries known as The Master and The Cat, who rapidly eradicated the Willow Bandits. Their success stabilised the region and allowed for agricultural and population growth.
Farmers’ Union Agreement
Rather than impose serfdom, Sir Edward negotiated a power-sharing accord with the Farmers’ Union. Under this agreement:
Farmers retained autonomy and land ownership
Willowshade joined the Serenity Barony’s vassal structure
Sir Edward guaranteed protection and fair governance
This arrangement enabled peaceful development and entrenched Willowshade's identity as a cooperative agrarian vassal settlement.
Military
Willowshade does not maintain a formal standing army. Defence is ensured through a combination of hired mercenaries—initially contracted to secure the region—and a locally organised militia composed of volunteer farmers. Sir Edward Willowshade is responsible for contracting outside protection as needed. While not a militarised settlement, Willowshade’s reputation for decisive armed protection.
Religion
Willowshade does not maintain a centralised religious authority or temple system. Religious practice is informal and localised, with households and farmsteads maintaining small shrines.
Agriculture & Industry
Willowshade’s economy is dominated by agriculture, with fertile farmland supporting grain cultivation, livestock raising, and small-scale orchard development. Farming operations are primarily independent, managed by landowning families under the Farmers’ Union. Cottage-scale production includes milling, wool processing, dairy goods, and preserved produce, reflecting a rural settlement transitioning from subsistence to organised surplus agriculture. No major industrial infrastructure is present beyond farm tools, storage barns, and basic workshops.
Trade & Transport
Local trade centres on agricultural surplus, livestock, and basic rural goods. Barter remains common among farmers, though copper and occasional silver coin circulate through merchants travelling to and from larger markets within the Serenity Barony. Transport infrastructure consists of dirt roads and farm tracks linking fields and homesteads to Willowshade; trade routes remain modest but secure following the elimination of regional bandits. Trade relies primarily on carts and pack animals.
Willowshade itself is located on The Oak Trade Road however a lack of infrastructure has resulted in it not providing postive effect.
