Clan Embercrack

Embercrack is a clan-domain within Redstone Hold, centered around the settlement of Mawmine, known for its volatile religious and cultural climate. It is the primary home of the Rhovak Hunger-Wound faith, a harsh and ascetic doctrine focused on suffering, endurance, and spiritual strength through pain and deprivation. While tolerated under Redstone law, Rhovak’s followers exist on the fringe of accepted worship, viewed with wary respect and quiet fear. Embercrack’s settlements are carved into harsh, mineral-scarred terrain, its people marked by discipline, hunger, and the belief that only through struggle can worth be proven.

History

Clan Embercrack traces its origins to the deep volcanic warrens beneath the eastern Redstone mountains. In the early eras, they shared loose cultural and military ties with Clan Redstone, but ideological fractures — combined with resource competition — drove a bitter rivalry. Tensions escalated into a violent schism, after which Embercrack was pushed underground permanently.   Forced abandonment of their surface settlements became a defining cultural trauma. The clan’s hatred toward Clan Redstone stems from this perceived betrayal and exile; Embercrack views Redstone as oppressors who stole their rightful lands and forced them into the depths.   In isolation underground, Embercrack society evolved around survival in harsh, lightless environments. Their reliance on cavern agriculture, especially mushroom cultivation, led to an iron-focused economy and strict self-sufficiency. Surface trade is limited, distrustful, and carefully controlled.   Over time, central clan authority weakened in the deep tunnels. Criminal syndicates, smuggling circles, and militant groups rose in power, operating with little interference from official clan leadership. In the lower districts, gang coalitions often exercise more practical control than the throne itself. Law exists, but enforcement is inconsistent and usually favors whoever holds the most force or leverage.   Today, Clan Embercrack is defined by isolationism, underground dominance, and the constant internal negotiation between clan leaders and entrenched criminal power blocs. Their surface borders are fiercely protected, their cities are carved into volcanic stone and fungus-lit caverns, and they maintain a guarded, hostile stance toward Clan Redstone and all outsiders.

Agriculture & Industry

Clan Embercrack’s economy is shaped by its subterranean environment and isolationist policies. The clan relies heavily on extensive underground mushroom cultivation, with numerous strains grown for food, medicine, and alchemical use. Fungus farms dominate their agricultural sector, supplemented by small-scale vermiculture and limited above-ground foraging.   Iron mining forms the backbone of Embercrack industry. Their capital sits atop rich lodes, and iron extraction and smelting remain the clan’s primary economic engine. Manufacturing focuses on iron tools, weapons, and utilitarian metalwork, with craftsmanship prioritized for function over refinement.   Supplementary food sources include small-game hunting in the sparse surface territories they control and underground cavern-fishing where waterways allow. These resources remain modest and are tightly managed to sustain isolation.

Trade & Transport

External trade is rare. Clan Embercrack maintains minimal controlled access to the Oak Trade Road, exporting iron in small quantities and importing only essential supplies that cannot be sourced underground. Most production and consumption occur internally, reinforcing their insular and self-reliant society.
