A veritable mountain of scrap and junk collected into piles. Rumors state that the junk is endless and that the heap always provides what is needed by those who seek to find treasures within its mass.
Purpose / Function
The two best guesses anyone has regarding the origins and purpose of the Heap are as follows:
Theory: A Garbage Dump
Given the variety of technology and the often broken state of items found within the yard, it's theorized that the various civilizations have consistently used the Heap as a garbage dump. It fails to explain how the Heap never seems to run out of material for use, but it could explain how it got started.
Theory: A Dragon's Hoard
It's been theorized that the Heap was once the mighty Hoard of a powerful dragon that has since fallen to ruin. Fei Lin's presence appears to support this, with her being a young dragon having only recently claimed a territory of her own.
Valuables
The Scrap Heap, to those who know how to use it, is a treasure trove. Those who are seeking something specific always seem to come away with, if not a broken or tarnished version of what they need, then the materials needed to craft it for themselves.
Alterations
Chapter 2
During this chapter, the party freed the Goddex Mineralis trapped in a crystal prison beneath the Heap. This appears to have affected the Heap's magical properties and capability to produce materials.
Defenses
The Heap's central location within the Scrapyard keeps it well protected from most outside forces thanks to the barrier that the city provides. It does have occasional problems with burrowing creatures, but the city's underground tunnel network is typically staffed with enough soldiers to keep such creatures at bay.
