Nexus

The City of Nexus is a vibrant, multifaceted metropolis, a confluence of diverse cultures, eras, and technologies. Throughout the city, aesthetics blend and clash together in a discordant amalgam of time and space; though the residents do not seem to pay much mind.

Government

The government of Nexus is housed in the central district and consists of the Mayor and a cabinet of elected officials from across the city. Additionally, each primary district elects representatives to provide input and direction for their district's sector.

Infrastructure

Nexus is shaped by three circular rail lines that act as the defining lines for the city's jurisdictions and, in the case of the Minutes Circle Line, the city boundaries. These lines operate twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, providing quick access to the various districts. In addition, three express lightrails provide fast access between circle lines.   The city itself is highly walkable, with residential, industrial, and commercial properties operating in close proximity within most districts. Individual cars are uncommon, though not unheard of, but the narrow streets and lack of free parking make owning any vehicle larger than a motorized scooter impractical in most cases. Instead, the city maintains a fleet of busses and a taxicab service in order to keep traffic low.

Districts

Nexus is divided into four distinct jurisdictions, each consiting of a number of districts.
  • Nexus Central - A single district jurisdiction encompassing the interior of the Hours Circle Line.
  • The Hours - A series of seven districts placed between the Hours Circle Line and the Minutes Circle Line.
  • The Minutes - The outermost ring of districts, including the four Primary Districts.

Guilds and Factions

The closest thing to factions that Nexus has are the following:
  • Mythwood Shire
  • NanoCity Metropolitan Area
  • Gearspire Borough
  • Timeless Terrace
  • The Hours
Each of these areas hold significant influence and sway over the local government. Mythwood Shire oversees food production and natural preservation. NanoCity Metro oversees technological infrastructure and advancement. Gearspire Borough oversees mechanical infrastructure and energy solutions. Timeless Terrace oversees historical preservation and education. The Hours oversee transportation, tourism, and trade. These Factions, together with the Nexus Hub Government oversee all of the city's districts and activities.

Architecture

Theree are four distinct styles of architecture that shift depending on your placement in the city. These architectual styles meld closer together the closer one gets to the center of the city and appear most distinct at the North, South, East, and West poles of the city.   Neofuturism More pronounced on the eastern portion of the city, defined by the NeoCity Metropolitan Area, this style of architecture is defined by sleek lines, neon lights, clean facades, and a heavy use of glass. The heavy steel and concrete buildings are tall and imposing, but minimalistically artistic in their own right. White and grey buildings are accented with blue and magenta neon that lends itself to a unique and beautiful nightlife.   Steampunk Victorian Most prevlent in the northern portion of the city, defined by Gearspire Borough, this heavily industrial architecture incorporates brass and copper alongside sturdy brick. In more residential areas, the heavy brick gives way to ornate wooden homes with complex architecture. Streets are lit by wrought iron gas-lamps and the nights are bathed in warm light. Steam and smoke pour out of chimneys, giving the area a hazy feel. Colors are typically earth toned and warm.   Americana Moderna Most prevalent in the western portion of the city, defined by Timeless Terrace, this brand of architecture is its own separate form of chaos. Housing styles borrow from a variety of cultural backgrounds, from multistory colonial homes, to single story ranch houses, to homes resembling the victorian style housing of the Steampunk districts. Housing is built from all manner of materials, although most are supported by wooden frames. Colors are up to personal preference. Homes in this area frequently have more expansive lawns and gardens than other areas of the city. Businesses, similarly, have a variety of facades and lack a uniform style; though brick is more common in overall construction and large picture windows are frequent.   Fantasy Medieval Most prevalent in the southern portion of the city, defined by Mythwood Shire, this rustic architecture ranges from meticulously built towers to natural stone houses. Stone, in all cases, ends up the primary material with some exceptions to the rare tree-house composed of wood. Houses are often left unpainted, but flower gardens are common. Unlike the other districts, homes and businesses are spread further apart with plenty of farmland between them.
The City of Nexus
The City of Nexus is a vibrant, multifaceted metropolis, a confluence of diverse cultures, eras, and technologies. Throughout the city, aesthetics blend and clash together in a discordant amalgam of time and space; though the residents do not seem to pay much mind.   The Circle Rail Lines that run through the city divide it into three Jurisdictions:
  1. The Central Hub - acting as a convergence point for the rails as well as acting as a political cenerpoint and identifying landmark for the city, given the massive clocktower
  2. The Hours - A small circle of seven bustling districts where the aesthetic amalgam is most present
  3. The Minutes - A larger circle of ten additional districts where the divide between aesthetics and culture becomes much more pronounced.
The districts within these jurisdictions are defined primarily by the four arterial roads that divide the city into quarters, as well as the four collector roads that act as defining boundaries for the most aesthetically polarized parts of the city. Three additional rail lines: The Seconds Line, the Minutes Line, and the Hours Line divide their intersetcting districts further.
