Arctica

The northern polar continent, which sits upon the top of the world in the coldest, iciest reaches of our world. There are some cultures and civilizations which can survive in this icy climate, and have for generations. But for the most part, this land is cold and desolate. Blizzards and wind storms are a frequent phenomenon here. However it bares the marks and remnants of a time long past, from ages ago.

Geography

This land, far in the north pole, is a vast and frozen tundra covered in ice and snow and rocks and mountains. There are a few rivers and lakes scattered through out, but they are frozen over and people attempting to fish there must first break through the ice. The Boren'thrav river runs from the northern coast through to between the city of Icereach and the Frostwind Mountains, where it forks into the Thrav'gren and Boren'havden rivers, with the Boren'havden River eventually connecting with the Blizzard Wind Lakes.

The aforementioned Frostwind Mountains are the largest and most prominent mountain range in Arctica, with the smallest being the Embre'jak Mountains in the north-east, and the Deathfrost Hills in the west being in between.

Ecosystem Cycles

Arctica has two main seasons: a long dark winter and a short cool summer, due to the tilt in Terr'ahna's axis.

The Summer

From the Summer Solstice in Kiliran to the Autumn Equinox in late Debrial, the sun is always above the horizen, leading to 24 hours of daylight, but the temperatures remain cool because the sun is low in the sky.

The Winter

From the Autumn Equinox in late Debrial to the Summer Solstice in early Kiliran, the sun does not rise above the horizon, leading to 24 hours of night. During this time, temperatures plummet to their coldest of the year.

Spring and Autumn

These are very short transition periods in between, marked by a couple of weeks of 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness.

Localized Phenomena

Unique to Arctica are these amazing and beautiful light shows in the sky, where the sky becomes painted in lights of all colours, called an aurora. Some people have attributed this phenomenon to the legendary and mythical bird of the North, Wintress, while others think it is a natural phenomenon as well.

Climate

Arctica is a frozen tundra with freezing cold temperatures where few can survive much less thrive, though some find a way.

Fauna & Flora

There are almost no plant life able to survive in such a freezing cold climate, while there are some hardy living creatures who have managed to scrape together a life here, such as Polarex and Mammothraw.

The People

About the only people crazy enough or hardy enough to live in this frozen place are the Frostelvan, along with some scattered Wekan family groups. But what these people also have to contend with, alongside massive beasts like Mammothraw are also Skulms.

Natural Resources

The primary resource of Arctica is the fishing in Icereach. There once was an active mine in the Kaya'modvenka Mines in the northern reaches of the Frostwind Mountains. However it has been abandoned for hundreds of years now. But no one could even agree on why these mines were abandoned. . .

Tourism

Some may wonder who would be crazy enough to take a vacation here, but some obviously do, as there is a snow resort on the southern peaks of the Frostwind Mountains, called Normandy Snow Resort. However, some reports say the last group to visit there ended up dead. . .
