Irushma ('Ee-roosh-mah')

Dragon serpents of the arctic, is what the Frostelvan of Arctica call Irushma. Coincidentally, the name actually comes from a Frostelvish word meaning 'Dragon Fish', much like Ishmana is a Quatrican word meaning the same. These creatures were also long thought to be a myth, told by Frostelvan sailors and fishermen who would come back from days at sea. In the stories told around drinks, it was told that Irushma would bring blizzards and high tides and freeze ships solid. In reality, Irushma are as timid as the Irus that precede them. They tend to avoid contact with people as much as possible. In fact, Doctor Ivan Sanderson's own encounter with one completely contradicts the stories told by the sailors.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Irushma is a huge white serpentine dragon creature which lives in the icy cold waters around Arctica and Arcticus. They have no other limbs or appendages besides two huge webbed sail like frills along its back, light blue to white in colour, which it can fold against its body and erect at will.

Biological Traits

Water-Frost

Growth Rate & Stages

Irushma is the Evo'ed form of Irus.

Ecology and Habitats

It is only native to the frigid cold waters in and around Arctica and Arcticus. It seems to be able to regulate its body temperature to an amazing degree, allowing it to keep itself warm even in the coldest waters.

Dietary Needs and Habits

It only feeds on small fish.

Biological Cycle

Irushma seems to only appear around the coldest part of the year, the winter months of Raanu and Maryve, similar to Irus, and appears to be most active in blizzards and ice storms, which must have led to the belief it caused such storms.

Behaviour

Despite what the Frostelvan sailors thought when they first told the stories, as Doctor Ivan Sanderson's own encounter with the creature has shown, it is a gentle creature which only means to help, not harm. It should both be revered and respected, as well as trusted.

Additional Information

Social Structure

For the most part, it would appear that Irushma are solitary creatures.

Facial characteristics

Irushma's head is serpent-like shaped, stark white like the rest of its body, with light blue bony appendages on the sides of its head, shaped like ice. Its eyes are light blue, like the inside of a glacier.

Discovery

From the notes of Doctor Ivan Sanderson.

"As we were out observing the Irus, Jane and I heard some very interesting tales from the sailors, of a giant white sea serpent which would bring with it blizzards and rough seas. The latter part I didn't quite believe, I believe it to be more exageration than anything, but as always, we went into the expedition with an open mind. We must maintain an open mind.

So we managed to convince the Frostelvan sailors to stay out there one more day, even as the temperatures dropped more and more every second and every hour. The skies were dark and cloudy. It was impossible to tell what the time of day even was. As the hours passed by, I wondered if we had already passed the one day mark.

Jane was the first to spot it. She described a massive long serpentine like shadow rising from the seas and then submerging once more. Then a fog bank rolled in, wiping out all of our visibility. Could our friends have been telling the truth after all? Soon with the fog bank came winds. As the minutes ticked by the winds became more and more fierce. Snow began to fall as well. We had quite literally sailed directly into a blizzard. It was impossible to see our hands much less the shore. We had no way of knowing if we had somehow drifted out to the open seas. As the blizzard wore on, our hands began to freeze. I feared we would freeze to death in mere moments. All attempts to light a fire to warm us failed. We were going to die here, I was most sure.

But then, there came a loud bump against the side of the boat. At first we thought it to be nothing. But then the sound came again. And then again. And then once more and it appeared as though whatever it was, it was nudging the ship's bearing inch by inch. Then, after what appeared to be an eternity, we finally made land fall! And as we did, the blizzard finally stopped. We were saved! But as I turned my head back out toward the sea, as the fog cleared, I saw it, as a massive white serpentine form rose from the sea, and looked back at us with bright light blue eyes. For just a moment our eyes were locked, before it finally submerged back into the sea. It had to have been the legendary ice serpent the sailors had told us of. Only, and I am most certain of this fact, it was our saviour. It saved our lives. In those moments I locked eyes with it, I felt as though I could read its heart, and it meant no harm to us, only to help us. This is a most benevolent beast with a gentle heart. That is what one must take from my encounter with, as Jane dubbed it taking from the Frostelvish language, Irushma."
