History
Over 120 years ago, a Temple to the Gil'lon The Master Cat stood on the Western edge of the quagmire. The temple was built by members of The Whispering Coast Clan.
In the temple, lived three priests, a cleric and fourteen other Tabaxi, who worked within the grounds. Some of the people living ran the boarding school - eleven children were collected from neighbouring settlements. The Cleric was Dusk Shadow, of a noble family and the youngest brother of the current Chief of The Whispering Coast Clan.
One stormy, dark night the three Priests of the Quagmire Temple took in four strangers, despite the hesitation of the Cleric who resided with them. The starngers had been caught in the storm. The priests feed them and gave them a place to sleep.
The priests asked only one request. That the strangers did not enter the chapel, until the midday service.
When the priests came to prepare for the midday service, they found the chapel had been disaggregated and pillaged. The cleric lay wounded against the altar.
The people of the Temple began to clear the debry and record what items were missing. A healer was requested from Farr City.
By the time group with the healer arrived, there were corpses of adults and children scattered thoroughout the temple. Only three small, younger children survived, to tell the tale. The three children were found within the small secondary food store (the hidden door stopped the strangers from finding them).
The children spoke of how the brave Cleric had fought the four strangers and the other five people who returned six days later. The injured Cleric fought, until grappled and their head was cut off.
The three priests lay face-down on the surface the quagmire, having not yet sunken down.
The various corpses were already in various stages of decay, so they requested a blessing on an area of the Dusk Quagmire, then placed the bodies of the dead (weighted with blessed rune stones), in that area.
* The schoolhouse in Odd was built from the ruins of the Quagmire Temple.
