Kingdom of Wescovia
Wescovia is a frostbound kingdom in the northern reaches of Iroth, known for its rugged beauty, diverse population, and deep magical traditions. Ruled by King Finn Sigurdson, the kingdom spans snow-covered mountains, boreal forests, and icy coasts, and is home to humans, goliaths, orcs, and silver dragonborn living in relative harmony. Wescovia is famed for its prestigious Arcanum, founded after the Tanarian Arcane Expulsion and located on a powerful ley line, preserving rare arcane knowledge in a time when magic is fading. Despite its harsh climate, Wescovia thrives through strong trade, mining, and magical innovation, earning respect across the continent.
Demography and Population
The Kingdom of Wescovia is inhabited by various species. Goliaths, orcs, silver dragonborn, and humans all call the Northern Lands home, and most can trace their lineages back centuries, if not longer. According to the last royal census, the population of Wescovia was over 5 million citizens.
Territories
Since 1024, the Kingdom of Wescovia has been made up of several smaller states in the Northern Lands, originally united by Sigurd the Winterbound.
Military
The Wescovian Militia is the largest military and law enforcement force on the continent. The militia is split into several smaller units - a naval force and a land force for defense of the kingdom, and a law enforcement unit that focuses less on defense and more on enforcing the monarch's laws.
Foreign Relations
Wescovia is mostly isolated from the continent of Iroth, which allows it to be more neutral when deliberating international matters with other nations on the continent, and its Arcanum allows Wescovia a certain amount of soft power internationally.
Laws
The monarch, advised by the Council of Regents, decrees the laws of the land, which are strictly enforced by the Wescovian Militia. Every year, when new laws are added and old ones repealed, the Royal Law Service publishes thousands of law books and distributes them across the kingdom at the monarch's expense, making them available for magistrates and militia, as well as private lawyers and libraries.
Agriculture & Industry
The leyline under the Arcanum gives Wescovia a unique industry - magical research and exploitation.
Wescovia also has several large forests and mines; and as the closest nation to the continents Absiterra and Septentri, it has a booming coastal economy supporting international trade.

Education
Since the early 1200s, the monarch has required all citizens to receive basic education in state schools, until the age of 15. Afterwards, families have the option to pull their children and set them to work as apprentices in the various trades of Wescovia, or in family businesses. Alternatively, children 15 or older, up to 21, can apply for admission to the several professional schools in Wescovia - the Arcanum to study magic, the Academy of Military Arts to become officers in the militia, or the Royal College to serve the government in various ways.
