Esker Brownstone

Archivist's Excerpt from: Alone in the Cold: The Story of Orphan Towne, its Strange History, & its Stranger Occupants, CVI 42.4

Among the many near-identical brownstone homes located along the sloping curve of London Row stands one particular structure with a little wooden sign propped in its front window that welcomes visitors in an old Germanic phrase long out of date for its contemporary society:

"Willkommen zu Escher Haus."
— Welcome sign on the Esker

Located on the unimpressive curve of London Row, the modest two-story Esker Brownstone household contains the entirety of the Esker family, or at least it did until Agnes Esker rented office space in № 138 Cavendish in Attistock, and she often fell asleep at her desk, and thus spent many of her nights there. The Esker Brownstone is their little family home otherwise, snug and scented of grease and oil and work, but homey and well cared for by the competent Elise Esker, the Esker home is a staple of London Row, situated beside the rooster-crowing abode of Edith Dutch, and down the lane from the Newkirks.
