The train is the best way to reach the Outskirts of Galendra, unless you're prepared to drive along untended dirt roads. The small communities are surrounded by farmland, nestled between the city buildings and wild forests. As peaceful as they seem, they're common hiding places for those in trouble with Galendran gangs.

What's Here

The Outskirts is the name for the disconnected towns, villages, and farms that sit outside the main reaches of Galendra. Though the bright lights and body mods of Glowcore are less common, the vibrancy of Nisoran culture still shows itself in spray-painted murals and rainbow banners. Covert meetings often happen behind closed doors here, far from prying eyes of rival gangs in the city.

These smaller communities provide produce and raw materials that get shipped around the planet to be sold or turned into other products. While there are a handful of shops in these towns, most supplies they can't make come from the city. Sometimes the products are shipped to them, but often the young adults are tasked with making the trip into Galendra to purchase what's needed. With the recent unrest damaging many tracks, train lines are unable to run. The Outskirts communities are unable to either resupply or provide their usual staples to the rest of the planet.

Who's Here

Most Outskirts residents are Nisoran natives whose homes have been in their families for generations. To them, the city is a necessary evil, and they're wary of any strangers who come to visit. They'll eventually be hospitable to Nisoran natives, with children relishing in what stories these strangers have to share. Off-worlders, however, get an entirely different reception, and are better off avoiding these communities entirely.
Wyre Rats Sign by Rin Garnett
Many Outskirts residents consider themselves Wyre Rats. Their workshops in these reaches are among the best at repairing and salvaging old tech to help save on expensive city purchases. Occasionally, someone who got on the bad side of Cryptix will flee the city and find refuge in Outskirts regions outside the gang's influence. Wyre Rats are particularly protective over such individuals.

Did you know?

The Outskirts are a popular romance setting in Galendran media. A common trope is a career-minded individual who comes to reconnect with family and unexpectedly finds love.   The most popular book series among teens, Decrypted, features a Cryptix member nursed back to health in the Outskirts before embarking on a journey of redemption.

Disco Ball Minivan
During Campaign 2: The Gal Pals, Atticus frequently hired Outskirts teenagers to repaint his car to disguise it. It didn't always go the way he expected...

Fun fact! The teenager who led the repaints is named Adriel, more commonly called RE:L. If I had more than that one sentence to say about her, she'd get an article :D
