Weg

Weg, The City of Frogs is a half-submerged city of amphibious sophonts on the eastern shores of the Bluestar Lake, at the southern tip of the Lozarian Peninsula. The city is famous for having just as many underwater districts as it does land-based ones. Home to grippli, bullywugs, and axolotl-folk, Weg is both a playground for the wealthy and a rising center of haute couture.

Weg's one of those off the beaten path places that's worth a visit! I always load up on plates of frog's legs, gator tail, and snake ribs! All non-sentient, of course! Call me what you want, but I ain't no ghoul!

Weg is one of "FTS" cities on the warm shores of Bluestar Lake, with Weg covering the "Frog" portion of the acronym. It sits on the eastern shore of the lake and its districts span both land and water.

The city's population, the Wegasque, are mostly bullywugs, grippli, and dula-dulas axolotl-folk, with other Scalykind forming a significant minority. Humans, elves, halflings and other mammalian mortals have enclaves in the dry districts.

Weg grew from a cluster of swamp settlements that spent centuries in conflict. In recent generations, the waring clans banded together to fight in the Far War and later joined the Concordance for Survival. Today, bullywugs live on stilted homes above the swamp, colorful poisonous grippli live in tree dwellings, and the axolotl-folk dwell in the lake's depths.

As members of the Bluestar Alliance, they are members of the High Table, among the wealthiest powers in the Concordance for Survival. The frog folks have embraced the style and luxury of their allies, particularly House Molndal.

Weg's artisans specialize in water-resistant textiles and decorative rust-proof accessories suited for moist skins and amphibious lifestyles. Landbound residents wear lightweight, breathable garments suitable for the region's heat and humidity. Elaborate northern fashions are practical here only in the coldest months. Those who insist on full coverage either rely on magitech climate control or they don't last long in the heat.

Amphibious Fashions

The amphibious Wegasque dress as a display of status and wealth. They don't actually need to wear clothing and actually prefer to keep as much of their skin exposed as possible for respiration and evaporation. Like most other scalykind, amphibious sophonts do not have prominent external genitalia, so they have nothing to hide. Traditionally, any clothing they wore would be for decoration or protective purposes.

They love to mix and match clothing in unusual ways. A favorite is wearing clothing only on top, with nothing on the bottom, and is called "ducking" after a famous duck person (Donnnie or Howie, the bards are not sure) who traveled the multiverse wearing only a sailor shirt or a suit jacket and tie.

Lola Carly loves to get dressed and when I go to Weg I love to go shopping! It's so hot and wet there, it reminds me of home when I was a girl! My granddaughters and I go from shop to shop on the Chemin de L'Etang. They always give me the bubbly wine and bring out their best frocks! And they never want me to pay, they just want my bibingka!

Cities and settlements growing from smaller previously warring/aggro'd settlements is a very strong recurring theme in history and you handled it very nicely!

I literally wrote this article because I needed a place to add "donald ducking" frogs! The idea popped in from a comment Emy made on another article! I've had this city in my world literally since the last millenium and I never knew what was there. I love how World Anvil makes us explore our worlds! (Also, I've added Lola Carly quotes to all my Copper prompts that didn't have them before!)

I yearn to visit Weg! Though sadly I cannot breathe underwater to visit the submerged parts. :(   Love the description of their fashion.
