Tedwen

The Town of Ten Skins

The subtropical city of Tedwen is the southernmost city in the Sovranty of Lozar. It ranges from the southeastern shore of Bluestar Lake to the shores of the Vitran Sea. It is the home of yuan-ti snakefolk and dragonborn refugees from the Dragon Empire, drawn to warm, humid the climate ideal for their scaled skin. Once infamous as the birthplace of sinister snake cults, Tedwen now serves as a valuable member of the Concordance for Survival.

Tedwen's been razed and rebuilt more times than I can count. It used to be the first stop for every evil empire looking for recruits, and the first target for avenging armies sending a message. They say you can see Tedwen's history in the war museums of everty nation it ever crossed.

Tedwen controls the southern trade routes between the Talinian Ocean and the Vitran Sea, making it a key stop for maritime traffic that skirts around the Bluestar Peninsula.

It is one of three cities on Bluestar Lake, contributing the "snake" portion of the FTS" acronym. It holds the distinction of being the southernmost city in the Sovranty of Lozar.

The Molting of Tedwen

Before the Pax Lozaria, Tedwen was the heart of a yuan-ti empire that controlled Bluestar and vied with the Tridensers for control of the greater Peninsula of Lozar. Over the centuries, the stepped pyramids of Tedwen were a breeding ground for serpent cults and psychic overlords. Whenever they became too ambitious, the armored Tridenser legions would raze the city, again and again.

Every time, the yuan-ti survivors slithered back from the swamps, rebuilt their pyramids, and declared a new "molt". They would decorate the new buildings with their own molts and the flayed skins of their enemies. Then the cycle would repeat.

Eventually, the Lozarians defeated the cults and brought the peoples of Bluestar into the Kingdom of Lozar. Even now, whispers remain that the Primacy of Scales has a home in the Tedwen, the City of Ten Skins.

Before I had these wings, I was just another orphan on the shores of Bluestar Lake. I've watched Tedwen change, and most of it has been for the better. But I fear the worst of its old impulses aren't gone... only hidden.

The image of pyramids being decorated with moults is quite a visceral one. Yikes. At least it is no longer a place of evil cults.

Yeah, the Aztecs came up in my head as I was working on this and they got up to some grisly stuff! And the cults have definitely NOT gone underground and into hiding where they meet in secret to plot their eventual and unstoppable return to Empire!

I'm imagining mixing what you've got here with a kind of Miami vibe, but maybe just because I'm imagining Florida.

You are reading my mind! It's a den of snakes, so it's a little Miami and a little of the place north of there!
