Magister's Dominion

The Magister's Dominion is a member-group of the Concordance for Survival, represnting the masked magisters who rule the Magocracy of Kiris. Once enemies of the Kingdom of Lozar and the Order of Tridensers, the Magisters shockingly came to the aid of their foes after the second Kirinal Catastrophe. This intervention was a foundational act in the creation of the Concordance, earning the Kirisians a permanent place around the Kirinal Pit.

The Magisters were granted control of the Southeastern Canton of the new Kirinal Concordance Zone. There they bult the Fortification of Kiris to guard the Pit, and raised the Magister's Enclave as their Embassy City.

Magisters of the Dominion

The members of the Dominion are composed from the six magocratic provinces of Kiris, each dedicated to a school of spellcraft.

The magisters wear ornate masks that symbolize their school and maintain their anonymity. They are addressed as Mage Inviktus or Magus Mordant as a title of their office and a mark of their arcane and political power. Originally limited to wizards, the system has expanded over the centuries to include sorcerers, warlocks, artificers, and other modern arcane spellcasters.

Structure of the Dominion

The Dominion is led by six Arch Magisters, each representing one of the magocratic provinces of Kiris. Each province selects its delegate in its own manner, including elections, ingeritance, trials, or secret cabals. Some Magisters see their appointment as a stepping stone to greater power back home. Others prefer the cosmopolitan life of the Zone and embrace service with the Concordance. A few, however, are power-seeking troublemakers, exiled to the Zone to keep them far away from the Magocracy.

The most powerful among them earns the title of Archmagos and holds the Dominions's seat the Council of Eight, the governing body of the Zone. This position is contested every five years in a series of duels to submission or death. While all Magisters vote on matters within the canton, only the Archmagos wields the binding vote in the Council.

The rigid caste system of Kiris is followed in their Dominion. Arcane practitioners rule while commoners, goblins, and non-magical serfs serve. Goblinoids in particular form the backbone of their auxiliary armies and the labor force.

Their ruthlessness and efficiency make them indispensable in containing the Pit. Though deeply distrusted by the Silver Assembly, Oath of Anam, and the Kirinal Council, the Magisters are tolerated as long as they follow the laws set out by the Concordant Mandates. On the Council of Eight, they usually align with the High Table and Winter's Voice, forming a block of pragmatists who see the Pit as a threat to be mitigated and an opportunity for profit.
