Bluestar Peninsula

The Bluestar Peninsula is the southernmost region of the Sovranty of Lozar. With a subtropical climate it experiences high humidity and is frequented by monsoons and seasonal flooding. The coastline is dotted with mangrove swamp, white-sand beaches, and safe harbors. Dense rainforest covers much of the interior, except for the cultivated lands around Bluestar Lake.

Some of my favorite people come from Bluestar! The gatormen are tough as driftwood, the kappa fight like fiends, and the frogfolk? They'll drink anyone under the table! The humans and halflings down there are tough as old boots. They have to be, some of the old-fashioned scalyfolk still believe in the Primacy of Scales!

The Bluestar Peninsula at the southern end of Lozar is bounded by the Talinian Ocean to the west and the Vitran Sea to the east. The overland cross-current regulates temperatures, making the region cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

The land is mostly flat and low-lying, with no mountains and only a few low hills. The terrain is covered by swamps, subtropical forests, and has one significant inland body of water, Bluestar Lake.

It's an environment that few can tolerate for long, the heat, humidity and swarms of biting insects repel all but the hardiest. Mortals from the cold north find it miserable, the Scalykind home.

People of Bluestar

The Bluestar Peninsula is governed by the Bluestar Alliance, a confederation of reptilian and amphibious peoples along with other mortals who've adapted to the region. Refugees from the Dragon Empire have settled here amongst those of similar ancestry.

Some of the peoples that live here include:

    • Gatormen - Lizardfolk who claim the peninsula as their ancestral homeland.

    • Kappa - Long-lived turtlefolk with a reputation for wisdom and prowess in battle.

    • Yuan-ti - Snakekin who claim to have reformed their tyrannical ways.

    • Grippli & Bullywugs - Frog and toad men obsessed with pageantry and etiquette.

    • Dula-dulas - Axolotl-folk with an unusual life cycle.

    • Dragonborn - Refugees from the Dragon Empire who bring ancient ways to the outer world.

    • Kobolds - Wherever you find dragonborn, kobolds follow.

    • Elves - If there are trees, there are elves. Look closely.

    • Humans - They've settled where most others wouldn't.

    • Halflings - Wherever you find humans, halflings follow.

I am old, even for a tree. I told my spouse that when we married, but she insisted we honeymoon somewhere warm. So I pulled up my roots and we went south. I must admit... my sap does flow easier in the sunshine.

I really want to add to it, to really capture the flavor! But I'll have to come back when I get closer to my Diamond goal!

The tailored toads and fashionable frogs kinda just popped in as I was writing and now I need to make them a thing! I'm waiting for the appropriate prompt to pop up!

I love Sarge's description of some of the folk from here. Definitely a place I wouldn't want to visit. Bugs and heat and humidity, no thank you!

I'm tempted to put really great theme parks there to attract visitors! Also the white-sand beaches are incredible!

Nice! I was worried I had someone missed this one. I'd seen you talking about it on Discord or the Twitch stream or someplace else, but I hadn't read it yet. But here it was, lurking in my tabs.   Anyway, I really love that you're getting to work your more immediate personal experience (Florida) into this world that's already rich with your familial/ancestral experience (Philippines).

Thank you. Now that I've finally started writing this region, I'm getting ALL sorts of ideas. I've been putting it off while I focused on other places, but I might spend the rest of Summer Camp fleshing it out.

This reminds me of Central America or the Gulf Coast of the US (or Myria Sashi on Derkomai!). I love the many different peoples that live there. The interaction between them has to be really...interesting? Violent? Profitable? Tasty? All of the above? I really like your map, also.

Oh yeah, it's definitely a stand in for any range of sub-tropical/tropical locations. But If you squint hard enough you'll see my native Florida! The interactions have been fun to think about and I ended up writing about a few of them this Summer Camp!

As much as I would love to meet the gatormen, I don't think I would last a day in that climate before screaming to be sent back to the cold.

Fair! I can only visit the cold, never live in it!

Any place where gator-people are, is a cool place in my opinion.

At the end of everything, hold onto anything.

I love me some fun gator-people for sure!
