Jeremia Elskivia
Jeremia Elskivia, the Great Explorer, the Mage of Ages, the King Charmer, the All Knowing. Going by many titles and names, Jeremia, despite being dead, is one of the most known people in the world, only rivaled by the likes of Harkon Larrentell and the Archmages of Grasmere.
No one knows where Jeremia came from, one day he simply appeared before a meeting of kings, where he declared he would map the rest of the world for them, if they would fund his research forever. Being doubtful of this claim, the kings almost had Jeremia executed on the spot for appearing unannoucend. However, Harkon Larrentell was assumed by this seemingly weak mans claim to being able to map the rest of the world, a feat tried by many who met an untimely demise. He convinced the other kings to let Jeremia go on his little adventure, since he didn't demand much up front. In fact all he needed was some supplies and crew to help him which he called witnesses since they would testify the truth when he came back and gave them their new map. Jeremia wasn't seen for a decade after that, the kings had all but forgotten him.
Until one day, he simply walked into one of their meetings again, the kings were flabbergasted. Only 9 of the 20 people who had joined him had survived, but each, under the effect of Zone of Truth, said that Jeremia had without doubt mapped every part of the world he could find. And thus it was, that the world was finally mapped fully, and Jeremia gained access to unlimited funding. He dug deep into the kings pockets, creating lavish labatories in each kingdom, from where he could research anything to his hearts contents. In the following decades Jeremia would often disappear for years on end on an adventur or research mission. Sometimes he would come back with something that only increased his fame, such as bringing Moonshrooms from the Emerald Forest.
It was also no secrect that Jeremia spent most of his time in civilization in his lab in the Kingdom of Invar. Here he became good friends with Harkon Larrentell as rumors from guards would suggest. No one knows the true extent of Jeremia's research or in fact his power. Some think he was strongest mage to have ever lived, others think he was a hack who got lucky. Either way, he did write multiple books on magic each year, many of which have found their way into the private collections of nobles or mages. Indeed, so vast was his skillset, he even invented new Runestones, and perfected some that others have declared impossible.
Nevertheless, as it is often said "Those who walk the earth will inevitably walk to their grave", and despite some rumors claim this came to be true for Jeremia as well. One day he went on yet another expedition, and as the years dragged on, people realised, that this time, Jeremia Elskivia wouldn't return. After 10 years, 3 months and 19 days, the length of time he spent mapping the world, his funeral was finally held. He was buried in the royal graveyard of Highpoint, as a sign of respect to his accomplishments, and because of his friendship with Harkon. In the many years after his funeral, people tried to break into his labs, but none could succeed. Even so called powerful mages couldn't crack the warding spells with a month of trying. And so, it came to be that Jeremia's labs would stand undisturbed, slowing getting overgrown, as local rumors tell ghost stories of what lies within.
