Raymond Kelfix

Raymond Kelfix (born November 4, 45 BFE) is an Alagorian sorcerer-soldier from the Kingdom of Dravonell who has served as Kesh’ari (Lord Commander) of the Sapphire Glaive since the foundation of the Sapphire Empire in 0 AFE. A veteran of the Alagorian Civil War, he first distinguished himself as a young officer in the Praetorian Guard, the forerunner of the Glaive, and later became a bodyguard to Queen Salena Athomath. Upon her coronation as Empress, she elevated him to the rank of Kesh’ari, making him the first to hold the title.   Self-instructed in the Weave and trained in heavy infantry traditions, Kelfix combined sorcerous ability with physical endurance and rose to prominence for his role in Athomathia during Octavius Athomath’s return campaign in 18 BFE. Known for his imposing size and battlefield resilience, he was frequently described by contemporaries as an unmovable presence, equally capable of commanding formations and fighting on the front line.   In 3 AFE, Kelfix directed the ground defense of the Sapphire Palace during the attempted assassination of the Empress, repelling the attackers in a widely publicized action that solidified the Glaive’s reputation. He is married to Talia Kelfix, a career soldier and Keshral in the Glaive, and they have one daughter.  

Early Life

Raymond Kelfix was born on 4 November 45 BFE in Scorchhold, the capital of Dravonell. He was the eldest son of Daren Kelfix, a career officer in the Centurion Legion, and his wife Elira, daughter of a line of desert levy commanders. The Kelfix family had served in successive campaigns along the Bleeding Dunes, and Raymond’s upbringing was rooted in a strict martial household.   He spent much of his youth in the training yards that ringed Scorchhold Bastion, where boys of military families were drilled in spear and shield practice from an early age. Accounts describe him as unusually large for his age, often placed among older recruits during sparring. Though not formally inducted into the Legion, he was attached to its encampments as a youth auxiliary, carrying supplies and observing maneuvers in the desert passes.   By his late teens he had begun accompanying patrols on the outer oases, where raiding bands and rogue cultists were a constant threat. Reports indicate an early skirmish near the Oasis of Tervan, where the young Kelfix reportedly held the line after his unit standard was struck down.  

Military Career

  Raymond entered service in his late teens, attached to a Dravonell garrison at the Oasis of Tareth. The post was small and exposed, responsible for keeping trade routes open between the outer dunes and Scorchhold. His early duties were largely routine: patrols along the oasis roads, escort of supply caravans, and long hours of drill in the heat. It was here that his unusual size and stamina first drew notice; fellow legionnaires later remarked that he seemed able to march fully armed when others had already collapsed from the sand and sun.   By 23 BFE he had advanced into the 7th Cohort of the Centurion Legion. That year, the Emerald Queen advanced into Dravonell during her consolidation wars. Raymond was among those stationed at the Dust Gate, a narrow fortification at the edge of Scorchhold. The defenders held the position for three days, rationing water and repelling repeated assaults until the Queen herself arrived and broke the gate with weave-driven force. Survivors recalled Raymond being among the last to yield, covering the retreat of younger recruits until he was forced back inside the walls. With Queen Savra’s surrender, he was taken prisoner along with much of the garrison.   Prisoners from Dravonell were given the choice of execution or induction into the White Knights. Raymond entered the ranks reluctantly, and for nearly two years marched under their banner. Sources describe him as present in supply escorts during the Valtorian campaign, though he deserted at the first opportunity, slipping away to join loyalist remnants of the Legion still active under Lord Commander Aayla Terin of the Praetorian Guard.   During the civil war of 18 BFE he was present at the siege of Athomathia. Sources describe his actions in the Grain Quarter, where he assisted Praetorians in clearing civilians from collapsing structures during the siege. He remained in the Guard through the end of the war, attached to city patrols and later assigned to escort duties within the capital.  

Service to the Praetorian Guard

In 18 BFE, following his conduct at the siege of Athomathia, Kelfix was inducted into the Praetorian Guard under the authority of Praefectus Sylar Matlity. Entering as an immunes, he was placed in the 3rd Cohort and deployed to Avalon, where Praetorian detachments were tasked with rooting out surviving White Knight commanders who resisted dissolution. His first recorded action was the capture of tribune Vaylin Gevroii near the satellite planet of Kaath'Ziruun at the U.A. G.G.H. demilitarized zone.   In 17 BFE he was promoted to principales. Returning to Alagor, he was attached to the Guard’s operations against the Cult of Atrops. During the clearance of a Loradellian cloister, Kelfix was wounded in close fighting but remained in command until the release of over a hundred hostages was secured. Later that year he received commendation and was cited in dispatches for “unbroken stead.”   By 15 BFE he had advanced to centurion and was placed in charge of a detachment securing early M.A.V. routes in the Bleeding Dunes. That same year he returned to Avalon during renewed sweeps for White Knight prefects; sources record his pursuit of a fugitive commander through abandoned starports, ending in a negotiated surrender.   In 12 BFE, during cultic attacks in Helfor, the 3rd Cohort was ambushed in Rathford. With senior officers incapacitated, Kelfix assumed temporary command and held the line until reinforcements arrived. The action was credited with preventing the collapse of the Guard’s position and led to his elevation to tribune.   In subsequent years he continued operations against remaining Atrops cells. In 10 BFE, he oversaw the dismantling of a long-entrenched cult enclave within the Bleeding Dunes.  

Weave discovery and beginning of training

In 9 BFE Kelfix remained with the 3rd Cohort under Praefectus Varenius and was deployed to Avalon under U.A. sanction to pursue Grand Preceptor Caelric Dorn, the last White Knight commander unaccounted for following the Fall of the Emerald Queen. Born was traced through U.A. sectors for several months before his capture at Kheled Station, where he attempted to reconstitute his retinue. Kelfix directed a screening detachment during the action, blocking Dorn's escape corridor and allowing the main body to secure the station interior.   Reports from the operation recorded his unusual perception in anticipating Dorn's maneuvers, and on return transit he was examined by Marcison Tenyne, a traveling Leyline accessor under assignment of the Council of Seventy-five in Avalon. Tenyne confirmed weave sensitivity and began his instruction of Kelfix, arranging for lessons during garrison intervals without alteration of his Cohort duties.   In 8 BFE Kelfix continued deployments in U.A. space, combining field service with apprenticeship under Teyne. Varies reports indicate training withing Foresight threading for short-horizon timing, kinetic biasing to stabilize arms, and threadmarking to track movements through obscured sightlines. These techniques were observed by Kelfix and recorded in after-action reports at Rhalic Gate by Lt. Ferria Hemlock of the U.R.C. after engagement with Priate forces in the Rhalic Sector.   By 7 BFE he was regarded as one of the Cohort's most reliable tribunes.  

Later Praetorian Service

  In 7 BFE Kelfix was recalled with other tribunes as the Guard initiated the final hunts for the Cult of Atrops across the Seven Kingdoms. He was attached to composite forces in Dravonell and Loradel, where sect adherents had embedded themselves among hill villages and trade hamlets. Operations often required extended marches into terrain poorly mapped even by local levies. One report places Kelfix at the head of a three-day sweep through the Kelvaran uplands, during which his cohort dismantled a stockpile of weapons and manuscripts linked to Atrops loyalists. Surviving records note the destruction of seven shrines in this campaign, and the seizure of encoded rosters that revealed sect contacts as far afield as Alath.   By 4 BFE he had advanced to Praefectus Castrorum of the Dravonell formation. The appointment gave him responsibility for the training and provisioning of its detachments, as well as construction of fortified posts in the outlying valleys. In the same year his command oversaw the reinforcement of the Redwater Corridor, a vital supply chain that had been repeatedly harassed by sect raiders. The reforms he instituted in garrison rotations, recorded in the Castrorum manuals of the period, were later adopted by other formations facing similar disruptions.   The campaign against the cult reached its conclusion in early 3 BFE, with Praetorian reports declaring organized sect activity extinguished. That December, however, an attack at the birthday concert of Irisa Athomath by actors claiming White Knight allegiance shook the realm. Though the attribution was later proven false, the incident prompted the proclamation of martial law. Kelfix, who earlier that year had been rotated out of field service after disputes over his use of Weave techniques in close actions, was recalled immediately and confirmed in post as Castrorum. Under his direction, checkpoints were established at caravan hubs, garrison placements were expanded through Dravonell, and Guard patrols coordinated with provincial levies to demonstrate presence across the Seven Kingdoms.   Between 2 and 1 BFE he exercised effective command of the Dravonell formation at the level of legate, though still styled Castrorum. During this period, he supervised operations to harden critical infrastructure against further attacks, including the waterworks of Lake Vernoss and the Thron grain depots.   In May of 1 BFE King Octavius Athomath was killed in an accident at the Tournament of the Supreme. His granddaughter Salena succeeded as Queen of Alagor and soon declared her intention to restructure the Guard’s leadership. Over the following year she alternated her confidence among senior commanders but by degrees settled on Kelfix, whose long record in Dravonell was viewed as both steady and loyal.   Upon her coronation as Empress in 0 AFE, Salena elevated Kelfix to Kesh’ari (Lord Commander) of the Sapphire Glaive, making him the first to hold the title.  

Weavecraft and Etherium Combat

 

Etherium Greatsword

  Although Raymond Kelfix received only partial instruction before his formal service, he developed into one of the most capable Etherium duelists of his era. His weapon manifested during his final training cycles under Marcison Tenyne, taking the form of a greatsword.   Despite a late start in Weave practice, Kelfix demonstrated rapid proficiency in Etherium resonance and control. His initial applications relied heavily on timing and positional advantage, refined from years of infantry command. By 6 BFE, field accounts from the Rhalic Gate and Dravonell clearances record his consistent ability to neutralize hostile sorcerers through direct engagement.   Reports from 4–3 BFE describe Kelfix as favoring decisive, high-output sequences rather than extended duels, driving engagements to conclusion before opponents could adapt. He showed facility in simultaneous weapon control and kinetic biasing, allowing him to manipulate Etherium mass in real time for feints and mid-strike acceleration. His combat analysis suggests a hybridization of standard legionary blade doctrine with independent refinements rather than adherence to any formal style.  

Weavecraft

  Raymond Kelfix demonstrated one of the highest recorded degrees of control and endurance in the manipulation of the Weave. Classified as an Alpha-class sorcerer, he achieved mastery across a range of disciplines including telekinetic projection, spatial displacement, energy transference, and sensory threading. His aptitude was considered exceptional even among veteran practitioners, marked by consistent reliability under field conditions and a capacity for prolonged casting without degradation.   Kelfix’s early aptitude was noted for his intuitive use of short-range displacement and kinetic deflection, often performed reflexively during combat. He demonstrated the ability to redirect projectile fire and reinforce armor density through localized Weave layering, a technique he later applied to shield entire formations during heavy engagements. Reports of his command duels describe instances of simultaneous offensive and defensive manipulation.   His telekinetic range extended to large-mass manipulation, capable of lifting and repelling armored combatants or equipment.   Kelfix frequently combined kinetic projection with physical movement, using Weave momentum to extend reach and acceleration in close-quarters fighting. He was also able to employ controlled compressive fields to immobilize opponents without lethal intent.   In later years, he has developed extensive skill in sensory and environmental applications of the Weave. He can trace energy signatures through interference, locate obscured presences across several kilometers, and stabilize leyline disturbances caused by simultaneous sorcerous activity. His thread perception allowed for anticipatory awareness of attacks, effectively reading opponent movement through weave pressure rather than visual cues.   Weavecraft   Raymond Kelfix demonstrates an advanced and extensive command of the Weave, placing him among the most capable sorcerers of the modern era. His ability encompasses nearly every recognized form of Weave manipulation, from physical projection to environmental shaping and sensory extension.   Kelfix has been observed employing Weave Telekinesis to move, restrain, or repel targets, including armored combatants and mechanized equipment. His control extends to fine manipulation, allowing him to alter kinetic trajectories or disarm opponents in combat. He is capable of forming directed barriers of Weave energy to deflect attacks or contain explosive force.   He exhibits strong proficiency in Weave-enhanced movement and reaction. Recorded instances include rapid propulsion over short distances, controlled descent from significant heights, and the ability to augment physical strikes through projected force. Kelfix has also demonstrated advanced reflexive Weave use, allowing him to respond to attacks without conscious invocation.   His sensory applications of the Weave are notably developed. Kelfix can perceive disturbances and signatures in the ambient Weave across considerable distances and identify fluctuations in energy fields or active projection sources. He has displayed the ability to track concealed or cloaked practitioners through residual resonance.   Kelfix is capable of sustained projection and simultaneous manipulation of multiple energy constructs. He can maintain active shields, exert telekinetic force, and project offensive strikes concurrently without apparent strain. His Weave output has been measured at levels consistent with Alpha-class practitioners.   In defensive use, Kelfix has shown the ability to neutralize toxins and absorb or dissipate hostile energy projections. His mastery of energy transference techniques allows him to redirect kinetic or elemental forces into controlled counterbursts, preventing damage to himself or nearby allies.   Kelfix’s precision in shaping raw Weave energy extends to battlefield-scale operations. He has stabilized localized distortions, reinforced structural barriers under duress, and redirected destructive energy flows during containment operations.  

Etherium

Raymond Kelfix’s Etherium was a greatsword constructed during the later stages of his Weave training, following successful stabilization of his personal core. The weapon’s creation marked the transition from apprentice-level practice to full operative capacity within sorcerer circles. Kelfix personally forged and seated the core, completing the process under supervision in the third Cohort garrison in Dravonell.   The greatsword’s first ignition produced a clean, stable energy field, showing immediate alignment with Kelfix’s Weave signature. He carried this initial Etherium through his later deployments and training exercises, retaining the same hilt throughout subsequent refinements. During the establishment of the Sapphire Glaive, the weapon’s blade shifted to its current cerulean hue, indicating the possible creation of a new Core.   No alternate Etherium or secondary hilt has ever been recorded in Kelfix’s service history, and the original remains in continued use. Field accounts describe the weapon as maintaining exceptional stability even under extended combat conditions and in environments of fluctuating Weave saturation.   Throughout his career, Kelfix has employed the Etherium in both close-quarters and defensive applications, integrating its energy field into combined Weave-based techniques. The weapon’s emission range and containment field are recorded as consistent, with no need for reformation or recalibration following engagement.  

Relationships

  Raymond Kelfix is married to Tailia Kelfix, a fellow member of the Sapphire Glaive and one of its most senior operatives. The two met during the organization’s formative years and maintained a professional partnership that evolved into a personal one. Their union marked one of the first major between two active Glaive members, occurring during Raymond’s tenure as the order’s inaugural leader. Both remained in active service, often appearing together during evaluations and Weave proficiency trials. The couple have one daughter.
