Feywild

Home of the Fey

Coated mostly in sprawling oak forest, the Feywild is home to the largest collection of co-existing species in all of Ustremmel. Led by the Mantis Prince, Cassaliel, the Feywild is a place known for its rustic magic and natural charm.

Geography

Located between the Murkmire, ocean, and Western mountain range, the Feywild is a collection of forests and meadows that get water from a large stream that flows through the territory. With the oak groves to the South and Sacred Grove of wisteria to the North, the varied trees and plants provide habitats for many different species.

Ecosystem

The trees of the Feywild provide habitats for multiple different variations of Fey and Dryads. With the Sacred Grove to the North providing a perfect habitat for Dryads with the gentle breeze and multitude of freshwater pools and the southern oaks providing protective canopies for bird fey, the trees are one of the most pivotal parts of the Feywild ecosystem. The rolling hills also provide perfect places for burrowing, allowing warm and dry homes for varieties of fairies, satyrs, and fae that don't have the capabilities to fly. Within the freshwater pools and large rivers, kelpies can form safe and thriving communities which churn the water and allow for ease of fishing for other fey.

Ecosystem Cycles

While the Sacred Grove to the North is primarily unaffected by the changing seasons, the Southern sections of the Feywild experience the changing seasons and cycles. During the warmer months, the fey, halflings, and gnomes are extremely active and experience the peak of their productivity. During this time, gnome and halfling markets will be in full force and the mammalian fey will be at their most active state. Once the months start to get colder, dryads that live outside of the Sacred Grove will become less active and more stationary. The mammalian and reptilian fey will also be seen less often as they eventually enter full or partial hibernation. Only the insect fey and a few strains of the mammalian fey will be active during the winter months, leaving the gnomes and halflings to guard the territory until the next spring.

Localized Phenomena

Due to the odd, ancient magic that circulates throughout the Feywild, time and space are distorted. The land itself will breathe and stretch as people travel through it, and depending on the person and circumstance, time can either speed up or slow down relative to the lands outside. Due to this fact, communication and trade with the nations outside of the Faelands is an extremely difficult feat. There have been many cases of humans visiting the forests for a few days, only to emerge months later.
