The Sun Festival

Ribbons twirling and jubilant music fills the air as the citizens of the Ustremmel celebrate half of their year gone by. Starting on the 16th of the Month of Flame, the 6 day long celebration will not die down until the ending of the last day.   With bountiful feasts of summer fruits and large cultural dances, the Sun Festival is one of the most highly anticipated festival of the year.

History

Like many of the seasonal holidays, the Sun Festival was initially celebrated by the Feyfolk exclusively. It would contain huge dances that would continue on for days without breaks. After the Fey became more wildly accepted as a political power within Ustremmel, the festival began to gain popularity with some outside cultures. The humans and certain elven groups were the first to implement this celebration into their yearly events, and now only the Dwarves do not celebrate this joyous occassion.

Execution

On the last day of the Summer Festival, a bonfire is lit in the middle of the area in which the week's festivities have taken place. Dancing around the bonfire will commence until the night's end. During this dancing, people will often propose to their lovers. It is believed that marriages proposed during summer festivities will be blessed through harsh winters and rough times.

Observance

The Sun Festival starts on the 16th of the Month of Flame and will continue for a full week (6 day period). Depending on culture, the festival may start sooner or later, but the determining fact is that it happens sometime during the Month of Flame and before the beginning of the Fall Planting.
