Depot
The heart of Toresta naval power is the Depot, a state-owned shipyard. It is the largest shipyard in the known world, producing more ships, and more magically propelled ships, than all of the other shipyards combined.
Purpose / Function
The Depot provides ships for the Toresta merchant fleets and also Toresta's large war fleet. Most ot the ships made in the Depot are owned by the Great Merchant Families, about half of whom are listed in the Sapphire Journal. Many of the warships built there are not for Toresta'a naval fleet, but used under Letters of Mark for protection of the merchant fleet and in piracy and slaver suppression. An interesting fact considering many nations consider Toresta privateers little better than pirates.
The Depot is famous as one of the first industry-scale production facilities in the world. It uses both standardize parts and assembly line techniques to build ships as efficiently as possible. Many of these techniques adoption into the arcane factories of Toresta. It employs thousands of skilled workers, including carpenters, blacksmiths, sailmakers and magewrights.
Toresta's Aerodrome is part of the Depot and uses similar techniques in the construction of the airships which are its other famous product.
Defenses
Powerful magic protects both the physical facilities of the Depot and the intellectual designs and arcane secrets of its construction techniques. The Home Fleet provides protection for Toresta itself, which includes the Depot.
