Replicator
The Hyperion Federation is a post - scarcity society due to these machines existing.
Replicators are capable of fabricating almost anything smaller than itself. They are given to everyone for free because it is very easy to build one using another, larger replicator. They are also built to last and will cease functioning after a long time. Anyone can download most techprints available to HF for replication but some such as weapons aren't available to civilians. Replicators work by using self replicating nanobots that can manipulate matter. An extremely powerful processor calculates an efficient way to construct the item and sends the instructions to the nanobots via QEC. While the process of moving individual atoms and putting them in almost precise spots normally creates a lot of heat, Quantum Entropy neutralizer QEN is used heavily here to vent a lot of heat away and to cancel out most of the entropy created. This largely improves the efficiency of the replicator.
Nanobots like these have many other implications for the Federation. Hyperion starships can repair themselves using them at the cost of matter plasma. This has made repair crews obsolete. The Federation can also utilise devices called multitools, a small tool that can be easily carried with 1 hand. They can manipulate matter in a similar way, except due to its compact nature, it does not store any matter plasma. Therefore it must use what matter is present. As HF technology improves, replicators can become faster while remaining accurate and precise. This speed increase is mostly bottlenecked by QEN technology, so advances in QEN machines is likely to largely improve the efficiency of a replicator. Replicators can also be used to deconstruct objects and harvest matter plasma at the cost of energy. Because of this they are normally used for mining. The nanobots can also monitor atoms that they manipulate, so it can also scan objects to obtain a weak techprint, one which does not function very well (when ordering a replicator to build using this techprint, it may fail to place som atoms precisely and some bonds may not be present). This happens because nanobots were designed to manipulate rather than perceive, so they might miss chemical bonds and atoms sometimes.

Social Impact
Single-handedly made money obsolete as well as the concept of corporatism
