Paladin Photon Lance

The Paladin Photon Lance is a Photon Cannon used by the Hyperion Federation. This one, however, is unique in that it doesn't fire a consistent beam but a large pulse of photons. Its beam is far more intense than that of the Oblivion Assault Gun and similar, but has a limited fire rate. It detonates an extremely powerful photon bomb inside it - though the blast is focused into the beam that is used as its weapon.   The Paladin has a different role form the Oblivion Assault Gun. It is less effective at destroying groups of small targets like missiles, but has a very strong alpha strike damage which can devastate almost any target in a single shot as several tons of antimatter fuel is annihilated and directed down the barrel simultaneously. Such extremely powerful blasts often explode against the strong hull of a starship and heat up an area of armour to almost millions of degrees which causes a very powerful phonon shockwave through the target. The photon blast can also often melt the armour so fast that it penetrates which makes it even harder to dissipate as some of this heat now originates from inside the ship.
