While Guatica boasts one of the busiest ports in the isles, the town itself lacks the density and civic planning to really compete with cities like Cadanport, or even Mantigo, sprawling over a shallow jungle valley in a scattering of low buildings capped with straw and red-tile roofs. The town densifies near the port and the Temple Square, but the lack of any town wall has allowed development to gradually dissipate as it moves outward, dotting the rolling countryside with small farms and a handful of sprawling haciendas. However, what Guatica lacks in cohesive infrastructure and paved roads, it makes up with in cultural vibrancy. Visitors would quickly notice the colorfully painted buildings, the competing aromas of the town's unparallelled street food, as well as the sound of lively music echoing from its countless cantinas. Here, the wealth gap between the general population and the handful of families who control the spice economy is palpable, so simple joys anchor the rhythm of daily life. But, with Hacienda Corvacho looming on the hill above town, serving as a constant reminder of the Corvachos' stranglehold of the town's available wealth, one could wonder just how long the people of Guatica will tolerate these upstart overlords?
