Othera
Othera is the region of North-East Daeamorant, bordered in the North by the Southstone Mountains and the Trisea, and is the nearest region to Kalava'khir. Othera is controlled by Domusanc Extonas, and is neighbored by the Regions of Lucanis and Akenlos, controlled by Domusanc Drusurys and Domusanc Veritalos respectively.
Othera's positioning geographically is important because the locations that it borders define the region. Othera is known as the most tolerant region towards outsiders, a reputation which is both a blessing and a curse with regard to the social standing of Domusanc Extonas in relation to the other regions.
Daeamorant culture is not completely isolationist, but it is generally not welcoming by any means. Foreigners are not openly rejected per se, but are certainly met with an air of distrust and a closed demeanor. Visitors from foreign lands would be wise to remember throughout most of the country that they stand on thin ice by default with regard to their social reception.
It is this specific mindset that makes Domusanc Extonas and the region of Othera stand apart. Outside of Daeamorant, it is known that the country isn't especially welcoming, but how unwelcoming is usually understated, and Extonas is responsible for maintaining this perception. Because of Othera's location, it is most commonly the region first encountered by foreign visitors to the country. As a result, Othera has developed a subculture that is far more accepting of the behavior and beliefs of those outside their borders, which has firmly established them as the de facto trade region of the country. Those passing over the Trisea, or even the Southstone Mountains should one head Eastward after, would find themselves in Othera, and likely selling their trade goods within the region.
The geography of Othera is not distinct in any particular way when compared to the series of plateaus in Cyrancia or the mountains that encircle Akenlos. There's sufficient farmland to sustain the population of the region, and rivers that run from the scattered mountain ranges into the Trisea offer viable location to settle across the region. Overall, the terrain is mostly flat, with hilly sections surrounding some of the raised elevations new the few short mountain ranges that run through Othera. At the southernmost point of the Trisea however is the Falls of Divergence , a waterfall that pours into the canyon that separates Lucanis and Kalava'khir. The waterfall represents the borders of Othera however, and while region of Daeamorant bordering the Trisea is considered the territory of Othera, the falls and the canyon they spill into are considered to be holy ground that, in loose terms, generally is treated as being within the domain of Lucanis, as a ancient temple of The Order of the Divine Blade resides at the base of the waterfall.
The population of Othera is not especially large compared to other regions in Daeamorant, but what does make it unique is its diversity. Because of the proximity of Othera to the Trisea, it experiences a significantly higher presence of races not normally seen in modern Daeamorant. You may find the occasional High Elves or Gnomes in Othera, provided they do not practice Arcane Magic, races that are an extreme rarity elsewhere in the country. It's worth noting however that even in the region of Daeamorant with a reputation of relative tolerance that Tieflings are still rejected automatically as being inherently evil, and Half-Orcs are to a similar extent outcasts by default due to the perception that they're inherently barbaric. A ship making port on the Daeamorant side of the Trisea wouldn't be harassed for the makeup of its crew necessarily, but any such crew would be well-advised to keep the perceptions of Daeamorans in mind if they wish to not be hindered or ignored. Even in Othera, when possible it's a good idea for Tieflings or Half-Orcs to not do too much travelling and have a clear answer for how long they plan on staying.
While the more open borders of Othera benefits Domusanc Extonas and the region materially, it does also carry the drawback of establishing Extonas as the black sheep of Domusancs. The culture of Daeamorant as a whole does not take kindly to the behaviors and beliefs of their neighboring nations, and because of this, the willingness of Extonas to interact more freely with outsiders is viewed with a degree of contempt. Extonas carefully navigates this through a combination of diplomatic gifts of exotic wares, as well as making sure that they don't falter in participating in ceremonies of religious or cultural significance. Because of Othera's accessibility to foreign goods, the region enjoys a degree of economic prosperity above most of Daeamorant. The northernmost regions of Othera and the settlements therein are the most likely choice for anyone wishing to immigrate to the country, as the people of Othera are more accustomed to the conflicting ideologies of outsiders, and because of this Othera has a more diverse selection of tradesmen and luxury goods available. This does, however, dilute the cultural norms of Daeamorant somewhat, which causes those in Othera to be perceived as being less patriotic or pious by default. There is certainly a degree of truth to this perception, but ultimately those in Othera are still very much Daeamoran in the majority of their customs and behavior. The religious focus that permeates Daeamorant is also prevalent in Othera, but unlike most of the regions, Othera doesn't play favorites with the Benevolent Ones and the population reveres Alleniel, Thaemenar, and Torach roughly in equal measure. Othera could be argued to be a bit more secular than other regions in Daeamorant, in that they're more prone to "agree to disagree" on the understanding of the pantheon believed in Torvahl and Kalava'khir. Were a Torvahlan to visit Othera, if they didn't specifically approach the topic of religion or openly practice their interpretation, they'd generally be met with a quiet understanding that "we fundamentally disagree on the subject so let's just not talk about it". Othera stands apart in this regard, in that throughout the rest of the country the same travelling Torvahlan would likely be able to detect subtle jabs in conversation alluding to their beliefs. In Othera, referencing Daemaskorn as a Major God would be met by a clearly uncomfortable social awkwardness, whereas in Cyrancia, it'd be met with open derision or borderline hostility. Citizens of Othera are required to serve as an apprentice to a trade for a minimum of 2-4 years, depending on whether their parents work as craftsmen or not, before owning a business or land. Unique among the regions of Daeamorant, Othera actually permits immigrants to own and operate a business if they work as an apprentice for 6 years, but if they provide proof of continuing ownership of a business in another country they may appeal to have that duration lowered to 1 year. Despite this inconvenience, it is the only option for those relocating to Daeamorant in the country, which should say something about how much more tolerant of outsiders Othera tends to be.
