Yendle
The town of Yendle is on the north west coast of Tinturbean. It is a part of the Congress of Concerned Citizens.
History
Yendle was founded in 5222 BPC as the ice in the northern part of Tinturbean retreated sufficiently to open up the possibilities for repopulation. It was an ice free port which offered a route to Oroth for the export of regional products, primarily timber and animal furs, and the import of a variety of goods and services from the south.
In 2433 BPC, Yendle was selected to be the site of one of the four Harmonic Resonators installed by the Way of the Harmonic Path.
The Yendle Harmonic Resonator is shown above as it used to look in the days of the Old Pale Empire, although in common with the other three it was rendered inoperable after the Planar Conformation. The ruined remains of the instrument are still a place of pilgrimage for followers of the Way of the Harmonic Path.
Thousands of years later in 4635 APC, deep into the Age of Shadows, Yendle was the location where the organisation known as the Cities Under Grace was founded as an alliance to fight the Shadowlands and the Justice of the Shadows. Then under the Limit Protectorate not long afterwards, the town was a hotbed of radical thought, so that the Loyalist Thaumatic Army Council (themselves revolutionaries at this time) found it a fertile place to recruit and to organise their resistance to Prince Rygarde. The fleet that sailed to the battle of the Eviction sailed from Yendle in 5148 APC.
Points of interest
The Elm Tree is a large tavern on the road to Elmbank just inside the city walls of Yendle. It is the best known hostelry in the town and has been trading for more than two thousand years, since the final century of the Age of Shadows. According to local lore, the Elm Tree was the meeting place of representatives of the Loyalist Thaumatic Army Council during the Limit Protectorate, and it was from here that they organised the construction of the clandestine war fleet that would ultimately sail over the Orothonian Ocean to the historic battle known as the Eviction.
The Elm Tree has always been a favourite place to stay for merchants and traders since the quality of its food and drink is usually considered very good and its rooms are clean and comfortable, although of course it has had its ups and downs under various landlords and landladies over the years. The tavern is well know for music and entertainment at the weekends, and is a popular place for locals too.
