Zul'Drak
Summary
The crumbling empire of the Drakkari trolls lies in cold ruin across Zul’Drak, a tiered fortress-land once carved from ice and ambition. Towering ziggurats now echo with the howls of mad gods and undead alike. Here, desperation drove the trolls to sacrifice their own Loa in a doomed attempt to stem the Scourge—and in doing so, they damned themselves.
Notable Landmarks:
- Gundrak – The capital temple of the Drakkari, where Loa were once worshipped—and later butchered. Now overrun by zealots, betrayers, and the risen dead.
- Zim’Torga – A holy site turned war camp, once a center of Loa pilgrimage. Now a strategic base for expeditionary forces trying to purge the corrupted empire.
- Voltarus – A necrotic fortress suspended in the sky by dark sorcery. Command center of the Scourge’s presence in Zul’Drak and seat of the lich Mal’ganis during the war.
- Altar of Sseratus / Rhunok / Quetz’lun / Har’koa – Each altar once honored a powerful Loa. All were sites of bloodshed and dark ritual as the Drakkari betrayed their gods.
- Amphitheater of Anguish – A brutal proving ground where challengers faced monsters for honor or coin, now run by gladiators and grave robbers.
Relevant Factions:
- The Drakkari Empire – Formerly one of the greatest troll empires, now shattered. The surviving Drakkari are desperate, brutal, and irreparably broken by their betrayal of the Loa.
- The Scourge – Occupy key temples and necropolises, turning the Drakkari’s own city against them. Voltarus serves as their staging ground in the region.
- The Argent Crusade – Their forward forces fight to cleanse Zul’Drak and protect what remains of the sacred shrines.
- The Loa Spirits (deceased and active) – Many Loa were slain by their own worshippers, their lingering spirits twisted or mournful. Some—like Har’koa—still resist.
- The Knights of the Ebon Blade – Operate alongside Argent forces in strikes against Scourge necromancers and their troll servants.
- Independent Troll Hunters & Adventurers – Brave souls, both troll and foreign, enter Zul’Drak to avenge fallen gods, test themselves, or plunder forbidden magic.
Historical Notes:
- The fall of Zul’Drak marked a profound spiritual rupture in troll culture; never before had a troll empire turned so fully against its pantheon.
- The region was critical to the Scourge’s flanking strategy—if fully claimed, it would have allowed an assault on Grizzly Hills and beyond.
- The desecration of the Loa altars remains one of the greatest tragedies in troll religious history, reshaping the relationship between trollkind and their gods.
