Perfect Vessel

"At what point does a human cease to be human? The Perfect Vessel defies taxonomy: an organism that appears mundane yet hosts a predator that is not of this universe. My colleagues insist on categorizing them as 'terminal contamination subjects.' I cannot help but feel that to do so is to pretend that we understand what we face. These things are not patients, nor even victims. They are apertures."
— Academician Dros Havel, Academy of Titan, Department of Psychosomatic Contamination

The Final Stage of Contamination

Where most cases of subspace contamination leave the victim broken, mutated, or psychotically erratic, the Perfect Vessel represents a terrible endpoint: complete possession by a Redspace Adversarial Intelligence (RAI). At this stage, the victim is no longer struggling against whispers or visions — their body has been wholly overtaken. The human “soul,” if it can be said to exist, has been evicted. What remains is a functioning shell animated by an alien will.

Unlike Ghouls, Perfect Vessels retain outward humanity. They can smile, laugh, and pass unnoticed in a crowd. To the casual observer, they are indistinguishable from neighbors or comrades. But witnesses inevitably describe something wrong: too-wide eyes, too-perfect stillness, or an aura of suppressed violence.

Human Flesh, Alien Will

Perfect Vessels blur the line between biology and metaphysics. They possess:

  • Predatory brilliance — The calculating mind of an RAI operating with human senses and human dexterity.
  • Temporal bleed-through — Vessels often demonstrate uncanny anticipation, as if they can feel the next few moments of time before they occur.
  • Physical augmentation — Whether by mutation, parasitic control, or sheer willpower, many exhibit enhanced strength, resilience, or unnatural resistance to subspace exposure.

Their psychological profile is almost universally malignant. They embody the Dark Triad — narcissism, psychopathy, and sadism — not as disorders but as their essential being. They plan, manipulate, and kill with neither conscience nor restraint.

Pathways to Perfection

Two roads lead to the birth of a Perfect Vessel:

  1. Gradual Contamination — A human spirals through early stages of RAI attachment until a Sentient or Perfected entity seizes them entirely, consuming what remains of their psyche.
  2. Deliberate Creation — Cults and warlords sometimes seek to engineer Vessels through ritual, exposure, or chemical abominations. Such creations are unreliable, but occasionally succeed — birthing champions or prophets for Redspace causes.

On Ixion, the Flowers For Ixion are rumored to cultivate this process intentionally, feeding chosen candidates contaminated thollins and exposing them to psychovoric fields until their “rebirth” is complete.

Case Study: Zamol Garner

The most infamous example is Zamol Garner, once a deranged sniper who fled across the outer system after a string of murders. His violent psyche, already warped, provided fertile ground for possession. When the RAI Loor’Ayjeh found him, the transformation was almost seamless. Garner was not erased but embraced — his sadism harmonizing with Loor’Ayjeh’s hunger for cruelty and conflict. Together, they command the military arm of the Flowers For Ixion, blending Garner’s instinct for violence with centuries of alien guerilla tactics.

The case illustrates a terrible truth: some humans are compatible hosts, their flaws and vices aligning so well with an RAI that possession is less a struggle than a union.

Strategic Threat

Perfect Vessels are considered Class Omega Contaminants by the Pan-Solar Consortium and Kill-on-Sight by House Helicon’s investigative divisions. Their danger lies not just in their combat ability but in their ability to infiltrate, inspire, and command. Unlike ordinary contaminated, they do not look monstrous — they are monsters in plain sight.

The Archdiocese of the Hollow Quintessence considers their exorcism nearly impossible. Once a Vessel is created, there is no recovery, no salvation — only destruction of the host body to sever the RAI’s tether. For most Ixionens, collaboration with or protection of a Perfect Vessel is considered the ultimate betrayal, a crime so vile it merits execution without trial.
