The Great Decimation

It has come to this.

Artesja has always been a fiercely political country; its patron saint, Artemis, even encouraged it. But something happened after the Death of his grandson, third of his name.

The Thyrimians had had enough. The Fascists began to parade openly out in the streets, and violence against landowners of all kinds by the Totalists, the federation was ripping itself apart at the seams.

Even when the Vehr and FGDP attempted to restore order, closing parliament and declaring a state of emergency, the descent into chaos continued. By the beginning of Summer, streets were barren, those who were able had fled to Rasina or Kassathia as militias began to silently take over territory.

In August, the war began in earnest.

Military: War

The so-called "Time of trial" begins, and the Federal government's authority collapses completely. In Karelja, the parliament is evacuated while large-scale combat begins to the north, west, and east.

Operation Watchpoint Begins
Political event

The parliament of the Artesjan Civil Government votes unanimously to undertake Operation Watchpoint, in which the Milicija, FGDP, Vehr, and Sekuritate all collaborate to quash any further unrest in the Pannalian heartland, to moderate success.

The province of Gitalgar also reports gradual successes, but quickly turns to face more pressing issues as electricity across the southwest begins to fail, Fedrian sabotage!

The Fedrian First Army marches on Artesja
Military action

On the orders of Queen Naima, Corps I, II, III, and a substantial amount of auxiliaries enter the western Gital mountains through St. Zakaivar's pass, overwhelming local Artesjan forces and beginning an occupational government. The Vehr Western Command and newly-formed 72nd Tundrarians move to stop the Fedrian advance.

In the chaos, Gitalgar falls to the Fedrian onslaught, provincial authorities are overwhelmed as the advancing soldiers are reported firing on emergency vehicles, the city is placed under martial law, and a large fleet of Fedrian docks in the harbor.

Rasinae Volunteers arrive in Zarnapol
Civil action

Armed fighters of the Free "Union Brigades" arrive by the Geminist railway to the city of Zarnapol. They're quickly put to work as peacekeepers, while others help with erecting fortifications in the surrounding countryside.

Kassathian Volunteers arrive in Rapinus
Civil action

A flotilla of Kassathian transport vessels docks at the mouth of the Rapi River, and a well-organized regiment of foreign expeditionaries is seen marching through the streets of Rapinus.

The leader of the men swears fealty to the Antifascist Government of Rapinus, their connection to the Kassathian state is unknown.

The Yarani factions fracture
Military action

Shortly after communications are cut with the mainland, the Yarani Division takes control of the Artesjan portion of the continent, but the peace is short-lasting.

Partisans in the north under red banners wage a brutal guerilla war, while Bezjan raiders begin to pour in from the desert.

Operation Geltarme Commences
Military: Battle

A joint military action by the Thyrimian Federation and the AEC attempts to take the city of Hannanstadt, and is met with failure. This is blamed largely on the AEC largely scaling back air support to hide their involvement, and until then unknown Free Artesjan spec ops in the area.

The Raid on Gitalgar
Military: Skirmish

Five small teams of 72nd Tundrarian Partisans infiltrate the Fedrian-occupied city of Gitalgar. They plant explosives inside several large vessels belonging to the Royal Fedrian Navy, including the KFN Naima, the flagship of the Fedrian Navy and a major propaganda asset.

The infiltrators are discovered on their way to their exfiltration point and detonate the explosives in the harbor as a distraction. The Fedrian Navy loses 3 battleships, 5 heavy cruisers, and 2 carriers, their largest loss ever sustained.

Operation BACKHAND BLOW
Military action

AEC Flight wings hammer the Fedrian positions in southwestern Artesja in coordination with an armored assault from Alani's forces.

Due to the sustained air bombardment, the Fedrian 4th Grenadierstreife is completely annihilated, the VWC makes its first successful major advance into occupied territory, a major morale victory for the Democratic Front.
