Ungri Communes
Freedom, by all means
The Ungri mountains have always been a hotbed of anarchist thought; the rough terrain and isolated villages, along with the solitary "Ranger" culture, make freedom and self-determination some of the most important values in the hearts of most Ungri. Many of the more radical freedom fighters secluded high up in the mountains were more than prepared for the collapse of Artesja when it came.
There is a general willingness to fight in all the communes that is unmatched by most other factions of the Artesjan Civil War, the people, no matter how geographically they currently are, feel a strong sense of solidarity with eachother, and are dedicated to preserving the freedom and rights they have gained, from threats internal and external.
Well one, two, three, four - Join the marching jobless corps!
No work in the factories? No more manufacturing?
All the tools are broken rusted, every pane and window busted.
Marching through the streets we go - Idle as a CEO, idle as a C-E-O!
Commune of Kösz
The sprawling mining town of Kösz has always been a hotbed of far-left thought, right from the first unions and syndicates formed during Artemis' reforms. When everything went south, a small band of anarchists couped the local government with the terse support of the people. With Kösz being the largest city controlled by the communes, it is also the most educated, with a large base of highly educated intellectuals.
Commune of Kala
A large town nestled in the valley between the mountains of the Ungri range, Kala is one of the larger communes in the collective, with most of its territory being made up of mountainous terrain or farmland. Control of Kala proper had to be pried from the nascent Midlands Militia, who viewed anarchism as an invitation to chaos, they were sorta right.
Commune of Jernvad
Of all the communes, Jernvad had the most violent birth, both the local police and a few Vehr units tried to disband the commune forcefully, they were thrown back, any prisoners taken had their heads planted on pikes outside the towns. Most of the commune's populated areas are dotted with emplacements and trench networks, the local population ready to defend their freedom with all they have.
You're starting to seriously piss me off!
You're starting to seriously piss me OFF!
You're in all those robes and your crown,
Living on my dime and still preaching "Peace and Love"
-You are the embodiment of nothing to stand for!
What kind of symbol of Artesja are you?
Nothing to be proud of, that's for sure!
What kind of symbol of Artesja do you pretend to be?
I'm glad that you see how my hatred is so pure!
Commune of Kalahar
A neighbor to the commune of Kala, Kalahar enjoys a strategically defensible position. A medium-sized town located right on the Kala mountain pass, Kalahar's biggest boast is the large monastery in the center of town, now turned into an ad-hoc council house. Kalahar is by far the most religious of all the communes, treating anarchy under the gods as the natural order, the right order.
Structure
The Ungri communes are decentralized by principle, with all power devolved to local authorities and councils. This does not mean that there aren't influential leaders within the Commune's ranks, here are the two most noteworthy:
Iskar Venetiz - The Vanguard Party
A Flying Dragons veteran of the The Tarian border crisis of 1895, Commander Venetiz made a name for himself when he organized the successful defense of Jernvad commune. He had since gone on launch a general assault against the Midland Militia forces and Stormbrigade V, meeting partial success on both front, though with admittedly high casualties on his part.
Juliusz Tisza - The Fortunate Son
Juliusz Tisza was a writer and farmer before the war, after the skirmishes around Kala Commune, he signed up for the regional defense force and distinguished himself in battle by hitting five consecutive moving targets while riding on horseback. He has since gone on to become the minister of agriculture for Kala Commune. A progressive at heart, he seeks to reform the free territories into a republic, which puts him at odds with some of the more hardline elements of the Ungri Communes, but as they say: Who dares, wins
