The Divinarate

An empire forged in the aftermath of the First Collision, that has held steadfast since then. The Divinarate is a conglomerate, a union of three ancient peoples, united against the common enemy of Bejakoz and its ever encroaching hordes. Locked in an eternal defensive war on the Tarian front to its west, the Divinarate focuses mainly on maintaining a strong and resilient army that can withstand anything that may threaten its borders.

Structure

The Leader of the Divinarate is the Holy Divinar, who right now is Haeasvethi III. The position is the ultimate authority in the state, holding both executive and partially legislative power over the government. With that said, each province generally rules itself, through, at least in name, democratic means. How democratic this actually is depends on where you are in the empire.

History

The golden era and slow decline

Fabien would usher in a new era of Tempertaria and its northern peoples with the founding of the Divinarate. After centuries of disunity followed by Bezjan raids and devastation, the Rasini, Tarians and Sackarti would now stand under one banner and hold fast against Bezjan attacks. Alexios and Caralio would follow after and contribute greatly to the Divinarates continued strength and prosperity. Alexios would oversee the construction of the Divinarates greatest churches, and Caralio's diplomatic seal and penchant for statecraft would unify the three peoples further. Caralio's rule especially would be a golden age for the Divinarate. His marriage to the brilliant Tarian general Thea Katrar strengthened would become a iconic symbol for the people of Taria, one that represented the unity they shared with the Rasini and Sackarti.

The Divinarate held hegemony over Tempertaria for a while with the example these leaders set, as well as the blossoming trade that followed after both the end of the First Collision and the clearing of the ice around the Artesjan city of Gitalgar. These conditions would however slowly decline over the centuries as the Divinarate had to deal with a decline in population and the Second Collision where the gruesome siege of Denarra would take place, as well as many more less noteworthy battles.

Resurgence and competition

As the region slowly recovered from the devastation of the Second Collision, a new era would dawn with the ascension of Irene of Saril. She would increase diplomatic ties with the rest of the world, including the newly founded Artesja under Tamara. The Divinarates military would also reach its zenith at this point with the newly founded Cata cavalry regiments being a symbol of its strength. Many successful campaigns against both a resurgent Taraburg, and encroaching Bezjan raids would cement her reign as a glorious one. Her journey in her later years into the untamed north of Tempertaria would cement her status as a legendary figure in the annals of the history books and earn her a spot in the Divine realm.

As the Artesjans short ascendancy trickled out very suddenly, the Divinarate remained the supreme state of the era. Irene's successors all being up to the task of maintaining this era of renewed strength. And while the battles the Khans of Taraburg and Bezjans would continue, the Divinarate held firm.

As the years progressed, the increasing importance of the sea and fleets would challenge the Divinarates singular importance on the world stage. Increasingly the Fedrians would rise to become the biggest economic competitor to the Divinarate, with small conflicts over influence in Artesja being largely unsuccessful. The Holy Divinars of this age became increasingly more concerned with playing politics in Tempertaria and enriching themselves, rather than safeguarding the Tarian border.

Civil war

The military and Cothesi royal bodyguard, became increasingly irritated by the blatant corruption of the Rulers. This would be the Birth of the Cassiite movement which slowly developed into an ideology that sought to overthrow the Rasini ruling class and replace it. Differing opinions about what should come after would lead to internal division, however with the increasing popularity of general Levi Cassius as a leader figure in the movement, the Cassiites would become entranced with the idea of a military dictatorship taking the reins. Haeasvethi the I would ascend to the throne during the height of Cassiite unrest. She shared in the discontent of the Cassiites with the corrupt ruling class but was otherwise opposed to the movements more radical ideas. As she ascended to the throne most of Rasini Bathae rose up against her, declaring Cassius as leader of the Divinarate. Some Sackarti families remained loyal while others declared support for the rebellion. The Tarians largely remained loyal, and their support would prove vital in the battle to come.

Down south the aspiring Rasini priest Rakaisa went to the Kareljan suburb of Bad Hansa to study. He would meet the young Artemis and would develop a friendship with him. Artemis would later go on to lead the greatest oppositional movement ever seen in Tempertaria and Rakaisa took notice. He returned to the Divinarate right before the outbreak of civil war and quickly rose through the ranks of the church by appealing to the masses. Though still a mere priest and not hierophant, his influence would grow under the civil war as he appealed to the people with Artemisian inspired rhetoric.

The civil war would be long and brutal, but the increasingly fractured Cassiites slowly began falling to the Loyalists. The Cassiites were also losing popularity as news of Artemis's success in Artesja spread. Their deathblow would be when Artemis became leader of Artesja and Backed Haeasvethi, as Artesjan soldiers arrived in support of the Loyalists, the Cassiites were shattered. Haeasvethi was victorious.

Justa-Kalri ascension and the War of the tyrant

Haeasvethi and Artemis would marry soon after and their offspring would rule both Artesja and the Divinarate in the years to come. Haeasvethi would be influenced by Artemis's ideas and would begin introducing Democratic ideas to the Divinarate with a new constitution to limited success. The two countries would see further entanglement as the two monarchs cooperated with eachother when governing their realms. Viaz castle in northern Artesja became almost like a capitol for both states and while hailed as a golden age by many, some Rasini would become frustrated with the direction the Divinarate was heading in.

Levi Cassius was dead but his son had evaded capture and went into hiding, he would begin sparking outrage about the degeneration of Rasini culture and disparaged the Justa-Kalri union. Many disillusioned traditionalists who had backed Haeasvethi were increasingly becoming radicalized by his ideas and soon Levi Cassius II would gain a large following. When Haeasvethi suddenly died at the battle of Thyrimia, they quickly sprung to action as the Cothesi royal bodyguards had largely accompanied Haeasvethi. They took over the government and declared Levi Cassius II as leader of the Divinarate, burning both the new Constitution and Kalri residence to the ground.

The war of the tyrant, as it would be called, would end relatively quickly as the Cassiites support was very limited outside of Bathae and Artemis would quickly dispatch of them in a swift and brutal war. The Cassiites were quickly kicked out of Rasinoplita and fled to Helarn where they finally were dispatched of.

Haeasvethi the II and III

Following this Artemis would oversee the ascension of his and Haeasvethi's daughter, Haeasvethi II to the throne. Her ascension was met with dissolution at large, but she would soon establish herself as a tough ruler with no tolerance for destabilizing forces. After Artemis's assasination she would crackdown on radical factions in the Divinarate, and eliminating their leaders. This controversial move would be met with some criticism from the newly established senate, however Haeasvethi II was adamant.

Despite this, Haeasvethi would mostly let the senate govern on its own as long as they didn't get any ideas that is. Her popularity would however soar when she oversaw the defense of the Tarian border during the Third Collision. Her rule would be the most stabile in a long while, and the people while not wholly happy with her were at the very least content. With the founding of Kassathia to the northwest, Haeasvethi II became perhaps irrationally irritated. Privatly fearmongering about their radical ideas, to her daughter.

Her daughter Haeasvethi III, was very close with her mother and worked along side her in the later years of her reign. Though she loved her mother, she also began seeing that her traditionalist approach would not work out in the long run. After many visits to both Artesja and Kassathia as a diplomatic representative, she would become influenced to bring some of their liberties back home.

When she ascended to the throne she quickly began reforms to modernize it. Unfortunately for her, the Tarian border would be put under great pressure with The Tarian border crisis of 1895, which diverted her attention for a brief while. This strengthened her popularity greatly and with the civil war in Artesja erupting soon after, the people of the Divinarate have never valued their unity more than now, and Haeasvethi III is at the forefront of that unity.

Territories

The Divinarate encompasses all of Bathae, Saril, the Nousarti planes and Lower Taria. As well as holding a protectorate in northern Artesja, due to the ongoing civil war.

Infrastructure

The development of the Infrastructure pretty much correlates to how important it is for the military. State of the art railways transport troops from Bathae to the Tarian border, these railways are always kept in pristine condition. When it comes to civilian infrastructure, its a dice roll. Generally the big cities of Bathae are connected by decent roads and railways, and recent renovations under Haeasvethi III have only improved upon them, but as soon as you venture outside the most well populated areas it turns dire. The Nousarti planes civilian infrastructure is generally maintained by the various powerful families that govern the region. The Tarian infrastructure below Karillia is almost purely maintained by the military. North of Karillia, the infrastructure is very similar to Bathae.
