Gearspire Institute

Primarily the Institutes purpose is as a research laboratory. Here they research the different properties of Soul-Steam and Soul Crystal noting the similar properties between the two and being the first location to formally recognize the theory that the two materials are in fact different states of each other. In the hidden recesses of the lab, there are experiments to try and artificially create Soul-Steam. Some even claim to have found the frozen bodies of several Mained Cats in the boreal wing, bnut any time this question is brought up either Zander denies it, or the person who asked disappears.

When you first lay eyes on the laboratory the buildings glass dome sticks out the most. As underneath this dome is a series of biome wings that host 4 different environment for research in the lab. The boreal dome hosts a manor of different cold acclimated plants and also is a result of experimentation with soul crystals as a means to cool air. The initial experiment worked too well preventing any household use but worked perfectly to mimic the environment of colder climates. The arid wing is a result of the opposite experiment where soul crystals where heated up as a means to distribute heat energy, in this dome the excess heat generate in the labs boiler room is distributed to maintain an artificial desert complete with cactus collected from around the world. The tropical wing was created once Zander's grandfather found that soul crystals could be used to regulate internal temperatures and built the room with the purpose to be the first to keep a tropical forest indoors, after dealing with the problem of an excess of snails he was successful in his endeavor. Finally the oceanic wing was crafted to host a comfortable environment to study the behavior of sea creatures and plants and holds 3,000,000 gallons of water.

Finally there is the central spire of the institute, while the ground levels of the spire are reserved as a recreation room for people on staff at the institute the rest of the spire is reserved as the residence of Zander and Angeline Chalister. With there bedroom taking up the top of the spire, several guest bedrooms beneath that followed by their personal study, and living quarters. Originally the spire was meant to be taller and host more housing arrangements for the staff in the laboratory but do to Mained Cat interference and budget cuts, the tower was shrunk to accommodate only the owner's family.

This building is primarily built out of a brownish grey brick with several iron clad windows. The domes are lined and supported by brass trusses and central spire has an ornate copper roof. This building stands out boldly amongst the humble cobbled building of Grimbric. The reason that the building took as long to build as it did was because of the building codes that the Mained Cats have set on the building leading to numerous redrafts. Most striking is what flies at the top of the center dome, the Moonkin flag. Naturally this sparked a greater controversy among the cats, but upon seeing the support the Moonkin gave the bold decision the Cats decided to leave well enough alone.
