Soul-Steam
Soul-Steam is a taboo technology that is able to convert the desires and emotions of still sentient beings in an engine.
This is done by capturing the soul of someone who had recently died and using their soul and their "unfinished business" as an incredibly efficient power source or as a way for the dead to artificially extend their life.
This technology is predominantly used by the Great Engine in the Engines of Creation.
After the Great Engine's fall the technology was researched by the Onyx Order but when Eclipsism leaders found out about the Onyxscaled experiments the technology was labeled as an unholy perversion of the Great Engine's magnum opus. Further public research of this technology has been outlawed completely in all of the major nations. But as with anything illegal, criminals and corrupted leaders seek to study and abuse the technology for their own gain.

The Great Engine was the first to perfect the technology but their methods and efficient use of it is unknown.
With the Onyx Order being the first to reverse engineer their secrets.
This technology is strictly forbidden by the different races and religions. People will still use it but those who do are either executed or exiled.
