Odir ([ɔ̆d̪ĭɾ])
Odir is a hot, humid world dominated by a sprawling network of dense jungles and rainforests. Its tropical climate, marked by relentless humidity and near-daily torrential downpours, sustains an immense variety of flora and fauna.
Towering mountain ranges, cloaked in mist and covered in thick jungle growth, rise sharply from the terrain, their peaks crowned with ever-present storm clouds. Between these mountains lie deep, winding valleys, many of which are flooded to form sprawling wetlands and boggy marshes. Wide, snaking rivers carve through the landscape, then split into countless tributaries and streams, some plunging dramatically into hidden ravines as waterfalls, while others lazily meander through open swamps and floodplains.
The lowlands are dominated by labyrinthine kinnik forests and vast swamps, where trees with gnarled, exposed roots rise from the murky water. The highlands, in contrast, feature steep cliffs, hidden caves, and jagged rock formations protruding from the jungle canopy. Scattered across the planet are vast sinkholes, known locally as “green chasms,” which often lead to underground cave systems filled with subterranean rivers and bioluminescent life.
Occasionally breaking the dense jungle are patches of open savannahs, where tall grasses sway in the hot, humid breeze. These areas are often dotted with clusters of exotic, flowering plants and scattered rock outcroppings. Geysers and hot springs bubble up in geothermal zones, releasing clouds of steam that add to the planet's oppressive humidity.
The Echani on Odir build their settlements along riverbanks and on elevated plateaus to avoid flooding and hostile wildlife. Suspended walkways and bridges connect treetop dwellings, allowing them to navigate above the dense undergrowth. The Echani rely heavily on the rivers for transportation, trade, and sustenance, as the planet’s acidic, nutrient-poor soil makes traditional farming impossible. Instead, they harvest Odir’s abundant natural resources, such as rare plants, medicinal herbs, and durable hardwoods, for survival and trade with the wider Six Sisters system.
