High Court of Featherfall
The High Court of Featherfall is the ruling body of the nation of Eliond. They serve as an administrative authority and advisory council to the Exalt.
Structure
The High Court of Featherfall is composed of the following positions, all of which are assigned directly by the Exalt of Eliond:
- Windseer. A representative of the Church of Aquila, the Windseer advises the Exalt on matters of religion and morality.
- Prime Justiciar. The highest legal authority in Eliond, a Grand Justiciar is the only court member granted the authority to call an impeachment vote against an Exalt.
- Prime Provost. The educational and developmental chief of the nation.
- Prime Chamberlain. The master treasurer of the nation.
- Prime Warden. The head of Eliond's military, as well as the Captain of the Featherfall Guard.
- Exalt's Eye. The Exalt's Eye is the chief spymaster; the identity of the Eye is, in most cases, not known by other council members. In some administrations, a representative of the Eye may attend court meetings in their place.
History
The High Court as it stands today was first incepted by Eliza, the second Exalt of Eliond following her ascension ceremony. While an administrative court had been in power since the founding of the city, their influence did not extend past the capitol itself. Being the blood daughter of the first Exalt, Eliza often vocalized her distaste for hereditary leadership, reasoning that such a system of lineage had created tyrants in nations past. She desired to install a legal precedent to prevent such a system from taking root. This led to the granting of impeachment powers to the Justiciar of Featherfall. Over the course of her rule, Eliza continued to elevate prominent figures in Featherfall's administration to positions of national leadership.
